There have been three ship seizures in the past week.

"Alarmed by the surge in attacks, the security council in June authorised countries to send warships into Somali waters, with the government's consent, to combat piracy."


Somalia does not patrol their waters. It is up to countries like the U.S., France, Russia and other countries to do it for them. That's why you'll see a number of nations sending patrol ships to that region. The rise in attacks recently warranted extra patrols.



"Russia's navy will send ships for temporary missions to areas made dangerous because of maritime piracy to protect Russian citizens and guarantee the safety of shipping," he said.

The frigate, armed with missiles and guns and carrying a crew of up to 200, will stay near Somalia "for more than two months in order to guarantee the safety of Russian ships," RIA Novosti news agency quoted the commander of the Baltic Fleet, Viktor Mardusin, as saying.

that doesnt mean it wasnt retaliation from somalia taking the tanks from the russian military.

Somalia didn't take any tanks from the Russian military.



Somali pirates seized a ship containing tanks as part of their cargo from a Ukrainian company.



And again, you don't seem to understand the meaning of the word retaliation.


If I punch a kid at school and the schoolboard then hires a guard to protect students, that's not retaliation. You can call what the board did a  response to the situation, or a reaction, but it's not retaliation.



Russia reacted/responded to the high number of ship seizures in the past week by sending a patrol vessel to protect its interests. They did not retaliate.

Retaliation means that you're striking back at the individuals who wronged you. Russia has, as of yet, shown no intention to launch an offensive against the pirates who seized the Ukrainian ship (which would be more in line with a retaliatory act).

so what your saying avogadro in an attempt to isolate themselves even further from the rest of the world, somalia has turned to pirates to keep their waters 'safe' from economic activity?

No, it's not. If they hired the bodyguard to beat me up...then yes, that would be retaliation. If he's just going to stand there and protect students, that's not retaliation.


Even if it was true, according to Russian statements, they're not sending the patrol ship to keep those specific pirates that boarded that ship in check. They're sending the patrol ship there to safeguard all ships, protect their citizens and (likely) look out for Russian interests.

Either way, you're wrong.

you're assuming the guard's presence doesnt do anything itself. the action against you is the guard, not just the guard's response to your future actions.

but when your own country doenst have teh capcity to 'police its own area' viz. somalian navy or coast guard, someone has to protect the area which is an INTERNATIONAL shipping zone
