Topic: Let's talk about Hurricane relief

Ok I understand the government going into an area that's been hit by a hurricane and fixing things up, helping those who couldn't get out, etc.  However on the news yesterday they were talking about Ike hitting Texas and rescue workers having to help people who CHOSE not to leave.  Now I understand some people can't get out for one reason or another, but if you are told, "Excuse me sir/madam the hurricane is going to hit and you need to evacuate."  and you respond, "I'm not going, I'm gonna stay." then as far as I'm concerned you are on your own.  Here's my proposition those conversations need to start going as follows:

"Excuse me sir/madam the hurricane is going to hit and you need to evacuate."

"I'm not going, I'm gonna stay."

"Ok I'm just going to have to take your picture and get your name please.  Now you understand that after the hurricane hits you will receive no personal assistance.  Buildings and infrastructure will be rebuilt but you will not be rescued or provided with food and water.  If you are stuck on your roof we will leave you there, if you are starving we will let you starve.  Now are you sure you don't want to evacuate?"

I'm a firm believer in not saving people from their own stupidity, if you chose to do something you know is potentially dangerous and you get injured or suffer some loss I have no sympathy what so ever.

There are 10 kinds of people in this world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

out in CA if you get stuck int he snow or something because you broke the law and didn't stay out when you were told to, they bill you for the cost of the rescue.   That can be about $50,000 a day.

The core joke of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that of course no civilization would develop personal computers with instant remote database recovery, and then waste this technology to find good drinks.
Steve Jobs has ruined this joke.
