Noir ??
Did you just say, "Good for them." When mentioned Russia and OPEC are in some sort of agreement about Oil Production ??
Why is the Oil Companies dropping the price of oil now ??
Time for oil prices to rise high : oil is still underpriced by about 200-300%
BW, they hold the goods... supply and demand, you know the drill. Good for them, sucks for those who need it.
Im not sure who "They" are ??
Can you explain ?
@ Cailen,
the is Economically speaking, completely wrong.
10-20% Either up or down.....maybe.
I Personally, think its over priced....by about 20% based on todays $99 price per.
This, even in the face of a major Gulf of Mexico Storm.
I think the Markets are FINALLY Learning that CAT 5 storms barely damage oil rigs.
After all, Bureaucracy builds Levies in Hurricane areas to withstand CAT 3 in the face of CAT 5.
Private business builds Riggs to resist CAT 5+, they actually have shareholders and a board to answer to.
to the CEO, Exactly who planned a OIL Rig to withstand only a CAT 3 storm ?
CEO....I did.
to the CEO, Your fired.
*****
to the Govt. Weenie, Who approved the plans to build a Leavie to withstand only a Cat 3 Strom ??
Govt. Weenie, wellllllll, thats a tricky question, you see, there are a lot of people involved, and many different agencies to many different things...and Im not sure I can answer that.
to the govt. Weenie, OK, what do we do now.....
Govt. Weenie, well we build another Leavie, to withstand at least a CAT 4.
Brilliant.
"Why is the Oil Companies dropping the price of oil now ??"
- *cough* *cough*
The price of gas in central Canada went up almost 10% over night - as high as $ .13 in some areas. Per litre mind you, not gallons.
Well Black_Wing, I'm not economically speaking, I am ecologically speaking.
If we bring into account that the use of oil as energy source or propellant has a devastating effect on our environment (in many ways) and that it is a robbery of our grandchildren's heritage (oil has many durable uses, think about plastics for instance) oil is actually very underpriced.
Tragically our economies are more important than our environment and thus they regulate oil prices.
Ecologically speaking.......ahhh......Got it.
/me runs into another drama expert.
My God, we are destroying the planet........ lets all live in teepees or earth work huts, and share our bounty, and live meager happy, lives......
Lol, I am actually no drama expert.
I support nuclear power plants, because they are a cleaner way to provide electric power.
I am quite sure that the Sun is also a factor which contributes to global warming, so not all warming is due to man (but part certainly is).
I live in the 21st century. This means we have a global economy, people like to eat meat, people like to travel, ... and this all has to be possible.
I can go on a bit to support my case ![]()
But I am also aware that :
Many species are going extinct or are seriously threatened.
Cancer occurs at the highest ever measured rate.
Air quality is at an alltime low.
The circumnavigation of the North Pole is possible for the first time ever in human history.
Sea levels are rising.
I can go on a bit as well ...
So, let me point this out to you :
Not everyone who wants to live in a clean environment is a hippie. Some people actually listen to arguments from both sides before forming an opinion. Some people want to help the environment without returning to a tipi and you know that it is actually possible by improving insulation of homes, using renemable power sources when possible, ...
And finally :
If you tend to have reactions like this one, how can you ever expect to get respect? You don't know anything about me and yet, when I read your post it seems like I am a vegetarian left-wing hippie while actually I am quite the opposite.
Good day
he's always like this...
BW, cartellisation can be very profitable, as OPEC has proved the last couppl eof decades or so.
For me as a bikeriding norwegian, high oilprices is also good to be honest. Both for the enviroment because it reduces consumption, but also because the elasticity of oil demand is such that it also increases Norwegian revenues ![]()
"oil demand is such that it also increases Norwegian revenu"
lol, lucky bas ![]()
@ Noir
At least that is understandable......except for the point of Elasticity.
Oil is basically inelastic. Not to say there is NO impact on Demand as price changes, but there is very little.
@Cailin
OK, understood
(Imagine, how are all the "Environmentalists" now changing to embrace Nuclear?? When did this change happen ??
and I can also say, There MIGHT be a man made effect, although I think it is near ZERO affect.
now....to the meat of your post:
>>Many species are going extinct or are seriously threatened.
Cancer occurs at the highest ever measured rate.
Im sure there are....just like many are being discovered everyday....or many have ZERO impact on our lives that seem to be worthy of stopping human progress for a bunch of Enviro-Nazis.
Maybe CANCER awareness, and the ability to detect it are ever higher ?
Sure.....we are also living longer, have less infant deaths, and are overall much healthier....
.....I like it today better than 500 years ago.
>>Air quality is at an all time low.
Oh, really ?? Move to Montana or N. Dakota.....or Northern Alaska or something. Move away from the cities......if it bothers you that much.
I like industrialization just fine.
I can live with it.
The circumnavigation of the North Pole is possible for the first time ever in human history.
Sea levels are rising.
I can go on a bit as well ...
Yea...Sea levels have been rising ever since the end of the last Ice Age.
Sorry the land bridges got washed away......but man had nothing to do with it.....I assure you.
Your point ?
>>>So, let me point this out to you :
/me slides to the edge of the seat
>>Not everyone who wants to live in a clean environment is a hippie.
Hippie ?
>>Some people actually listen to arguments from both sides before forming an opinion. Some people want to help the environment without returning to a tipi and you know that it is actually possible by improving insulation of homes, using renemable power sources when possible, ...
Ohh....I got it. YOU are informed. The rest of us are just idiots, and uninformed, and uncaring, and a bunch of right wing Christian soldiers tossing bibles at everyone.
And finally :
>>>If you tend to have reactions like this one, how can you ever expect to get respect? You don't know anything about me and yet, when I read your post it seems like I am a vegetarian left-wing hippie while actually I am quite the opposite.
hehe.... Funny. It it YOU who went over the top there son.
The Green Party Mantra is tired and old.
Al Gore is NOT my Hero.
Green Peace is NOT my Org of choice.
I certainly dint go around chaining my self to trees.
>>>Good day
Ohh, why thank you.
I ALWAYS have a good day (some are better than others).
After all, Im a conservative.
I love life and dont care to run everyone Else's.
Have a good day.
Dont worry about so many things son. It will drive you to an early grave.
Earlier than Evil man and his evil ways can ever do.![]()
"@ Noir

BW im sure you knopw this so im not gonna hold it over your head ![]()
As you read from my post, elsticity is such that Oilproducers earn more with a higher price, and like you state, that is because demand for oil i pretty INELASTIC. So we agree
, consumption is reduced, but by less % than the prices (elasticity below 1) Thus the producers get a bigger revenue. And that is why I as a non car owning student, from a country that has oil as its biggest export is very happy about high oilprices. It gives Norway bigger income, and also reduces worldwide pollution.
And as im sure you understand, Russia and Opec working together can only drive oilprice upwards ![]()
Note: Nice to finally discuss something with someone slighlty intellegent ![]()
Uhhhh, Black Wing? Cleaner air does count - I suppose you just have not been able to compare a dirty city with a clean one.
If I want to live in a city (I do: good jobs)
and I do not want to breathe a car exhaust the whole day long (I do not)
then about half of the big cities would not do it. There are some that are relatively nice and for most of the average cities this problem is not that acute right now - but with expanding cities this might change. C'mon, I do not want to live in a place like Beijng with its dirty air - you must have seen the photos of it. So, clean air does count at some point.
