Anyways, the American flag may be a piece of cloth, but to many Americans, it means a lot.  The American flag changes with American history.  Just like our nation, it grows beside us and as such, it has gone through many changes.  Nations have flags to not only discern itself from other nations, but also to express what that flag symbolizes.  In America, our flag stands for everything we've united for, fought for, died for.  And for an American to just throw it away like it was a cheap toy is disrespectful to the symbolism of the flag.  To see it as "just a piece of cloth" as an example of "advancement" is almost as retarded as saying "it's just land, tear it up and build a high rise."
