Topic: Gustav vs. Katrina

1.  At the local level, there was actually a plan in place to evacuate for Gustav.   With Katrina, the Mayor was THE single worst executive that caused the non action.

2.  The Federal Govt. gave the region Disaster area designation.  This allows the Governor and county officials to draw on FEMA.
THIS TIME......the State Govt. actually used the resources.

3.  The Govts. of Florida and Texas probably have the best disaster relief/planning organization.  AGAIN. they come to the aid of Louisiana. 
THIS TIME.....the Louisiana govt. actually takes up their offer.

4.  NOTICE....the SUPER DOME is not used to house evacuees.   The New Orleans plan actually moves people inland, and off the flood plain that the Super dome was on.

5.  Gustav is a more dangerous storm that Katrina was.  BUT, the difference is three years after the fact.  The weakest of the Levees had been replaced.  Zones have been reinforced, and an actual REALISTIC plan of evacuation is in place by a Govt. that has learned its lesson the Hard way.

Lets be perfectly CLEAR here.   Mayor NAGAN Learned his lesson.  He is much better prepared here.
The STATE of LA learned its Lesson.  Much better organization and help to the counties and the City of New Orleans.

President BUSH and FEMA........They have no part of this storm.  They had no part of Katrina. 
FEMA has done a good job dong exactly what they do;  they offer help to the sate after emergency designation to the State when it is requested.


QUESTION:

Will the same boneheads who blamed Katrina on BUSH, applaud him for GUSTAV ??

I am sorry black wing, but Kanye West will never admit that he's an idiot and that there is a PROCESS to asking for federal aid. The president has 49 other states to look after and a crap ton of bad publicity from over seas to handle. However, I am glad that the idiots in charge of Louisiana finally got off their asses and did something right, rather than just let people die and attempt to blame Bush. As liberal as I am, even I knew it wasn't President Doofy's fault that people died in that case. Besides, Mississippi was hit far WORSE than Louisiana and got far less help than those ill-prepared dorks in Louisiana.

You forget that it was the responsibility of the mayor of New Orleans as well as the Governor of Louisiana to FIRST declare the disaster area and ask for aid. Not to mention they knew the dangers they faced and refused to evacuate until the last minute. As full of fail as Bush is, he didn't drop the ball  on Louisiana and there were several OTHER STATES who also got hit. Louisiana got all the press because they bitched the loudest and starting pointing fingers for the purpose of political gain and to save face. You were stupid enough to fall for their ruse.

Actually, the angle of approach on New Orleans made this a WORSE storm than Katrina.

The core joke of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that of course no civilization would develop personal computers with instant remote database recovery, and then waste this technology to find good drinks.
