Re: Wining and Dining in Brussels!

So I went to Brussels, just came back today!

It's a great city, looks a bit worn down but that's charming in a way, totally different to what I'm used to, and thats good, no?:P As for culture and food.. Well my girlfriend and I ended up in the Nieuwstraat and our budget kind off shrunk drasticly! However we did manage to find some good food, so I was pretty happy in that regard.

And the Vleeshouwerstraat....!!! What the Hell is up with all them Turkish/Italian waiters? I must say I've never felt so violated. sad  I'm glad we rushed through that street. I did have one tourist disaster diner and that was in the "De Ultieme Hallucinatie", some kind of Art Deco restaurant. Don't go there unless you like veeeeery dry chicken or Cock Au Vin with almost zero Vin in the sauce. tongue

The nicest part of Brussel was the Zavel area, looked really nice and there were some nice eateries nearby the skate ramps. I had some excellent lunches in a place called 'Het Dagelijks Brood".

The language thing was kinda funny though, you never quite know when someone speak Dutch/French/English, which turned into some awkward moments. tongue I also enjoyed the famous 'french' arrogance when they found out I spoke English/Dutch, most clerks were very friendly and helpfull and enjoyed speaking in a foreign language, or atleast faked it very well! Some were outright rude, impatient and almost looked ready to scratch out my eyeballs, which was a first for me.

All this considered though, Brussel rocks, I had a great time and I wish I was back again. But that will have to wait because my feet are killing me tongue

Did they ass-rape you when you didn't want to check their menus?

I'll never know if it was worth the pain, but I still loved it more than anything in the world - it was my life.

Re: Wining and Dining in Brussels!

Should have gone to mini europa theme park at the heyzel as well; there's this guy in a giant orange turtle suit literally forcing you to have your picture taken with him.

Last time i was there, he grabbed hold of me while i was pushing him away telling him to go [pleasure] himself and that i didnt want my picture taken, while he was yelling that it was his job, and that the pictures were available at the stall at the exit, and then i yelled that i'd kick his ass , but then the picture was taken, and he let go and rushed on to another victim.

So those waiters arent too bad smile Glad you enjoyed the Zavel; there's loads of pretty spots like it.

Re: Wining and Dining in Brussels!

I'm glad I did not go there then.... tongue

Out of principle I more or less chose to ignore most Europe/EU related things in Brussel. There is nothing fun about looking at haugthy concrete goverment buildings anyway. tongue

The mini village, that's the one near the Atmomium, a leftover from the 58 World expo? Anywho, I actually went to the Atomium, and it was OK, the thing I liked though was the displays with all the adverts, folders and other ways of communication that was used to promote the Expo nationally and internationally.

Some of that stuff would still look very good in this day and age. Props to the designers who worked on that stuff.

Indeed, if you were walking through the park with those displays, mini europa was 200 meters away, to the left, next to the cinema complex. smile

The 58 expo memorial thing i find rather weak, they could have made some scale models as well perhaps, instead of just some black & white displays. But I agree, it was a huge exposition and the buildings, architecture and used techniques were very impressive.

Next time visit the lion of waterloo as well smile

Capital you have to cough up within the year to set it up is about 12.400 euros now. Add 2-3k for administration, notary, etc. If you're a 2 or more ltd company it's only 6.4k euros. Higher price for the one man ltd is to counter the frequent fraudulent setup of it.

But you could always go for a ltd. according to english law as well, then it costs way less to set up (1.200 euros plus a couple of hundred for formalities), but the tax regime is lots harsher. And I'm not too sure about the amount of protection it currently enjoys under belgian law, which isn't always compliant / up to date with the well inteded European directives. tongue

If you're a 2 or more ltd company you have to bring in minimum 6.2k euro's (1/3) of what needs to be brought in the company (18550 euro). The other 2/3 doesn't have to be brought in immediatly but should be made available if needed.
