"Joe4444 has the Bible on his side whether you like it or not and playing around with the Bible and quoting it in different contexts to fit the values you get from the secular world doesn't make those values Biblical."
Not arguing this point but there is a long list of bad ideas that had the Bible on their side.
Now regardless of what is in the Bible it is hoped that at the dawn of the 21st century we can throw away some of the more archaic views held in its pages wouldn't you think? Yes the Bible says women shouldn't hold positions of authority over men but the Bible also says that people guilty of various sins should be stoned to death should we follow that too?
Basing your vote solely on religion is a bad way to go. Basing your vote on ANY singular thing is a bad way to go. If a candidate ran and had ideas for all these policies you agreed with, had all these great ideas, would you not vote for them because of one thing you didn't like about them? I understand how important the Bible is to some people but if you are going to decide who to vote for based on what is in a book written 2,000 years ago when people still thought the earth was the center of the universe and the sun was pulled across the sky by a chariot, do the world a favour and don't vote.
First, everyone involved in this thread needs to sit back, relax, and have a beer,or seven.
Second, I am Democrat-ish (don't like to be completly roped into a certain group) And if I had to vote for a democrat it would be Clinton, she has SOME clue what she's doing. But I think that right now I would for McCain becuase the thing most people don't like about him is his veiw on the war(we should stay there forever) well he's a little something for you, no matter who gets elected we will still be in Iraq in four years, No way around it. If we started pulling troops out right now, we would still be there in four years. After Desert Storm (that was only a hundred hour war) it took us two years to get all of our troops out. As you may of noticed we've been there a little bit longer with a few more people this time. So the canadates should just stop talking about Iraq becuase NONE of them can end it in the four years that they will be in charge. Thats right who ever wins will only be in charge for four years, becuase there is no way they can fix everything thats wrong with the country in that amount of time. Maybe Obama can try again in 2012, if he dosen't make this year, and he plays his cards right between now and then.
Thank you tavius, finally some encouragement
This is about the only forum where I seem to get so little. I appreciate and agree with what you, tavius, said. In addition, I'd like to add some input to other comments.
> "Basing your vote solely on religion is a bad way to go."
DPS: True, but you also must consider that for some, such as myself, religion is the backbone of our life. It is treated as the highest priority in everything I say and do. If I voted entirely out of religion, it would be reluctantly for McCain. However, I'm willing to forgive Obama's stance as a pro-choice candidate, because I like his positive message to bring the nation forward.

I really don't like the way that your depicting the Bible here. Its a sacred book, it governs our lives, from before creation to beyond death. It is, in the least, a favor to our creator to simply perform a small task on earth (such as voting) to his favor.

Well I think that Hillary would make a good president. She's got an experienced president living with her, and she'll have the brotha as a VP in case some shit pops off at the white house and someone needs to bust a cap! ![]()
tavius,

Here's a nice explanation of some of your quotes in their historical context, also:

lmfao I stopped reading Joe when you took the road of 'Never voting for Woman'.
Would of thought better of someone who seems to have morals but obviously that was an incorrect assumption. Obama is nothing but words... what I find absolutely atrocious is the fact that people vote so blindly.
For example...
81% of African American voted for Obama in Texas... just like 70%+ of Latinos vote for Hilary. Why in the hell are our politics aimed at ETHNIC / RACIAL groups rather than separated by Politic constituents. Seriously, just listening to people's reasoning behind voting are stupid and sickening.
'I won't vote Hillary because she's a woman'
'I won't vote Obama because he's black'
'I won't vote Mccain because he's old'
Seriously anyone who believes in ANY of those statements are the reason our country is so [tree]ing politically backwards.
@ Loz
Whoever wrote that piece has a good imagination but he was quoting the Bible out of context. He doesn't at all mention the next 3 verses which follow after 1 Timothy 2:11-12 which puts it in a very different context from the one he gives. Read 1 Timothy 2:13-15 and tell me it was just a couple of guidelines for women meetings as seems to be implied.
As for denying the verses because they don't happen to be of the Gospels or spoken by Jesus, the question is whether or not you really believe the Bible to be the Word of God.
If you don't and only follow what was said by Jesus, then do you also discount the prophesies that were given in the OT and the NT which endorse Jesus as the true Messiah because they weren't actually spoken by Jesus?
Should Christians simply select what they want from the Bible to fit whatever the current moral consensus is or do they actually rely on it for moral teachings not the secular world. If it's the former then what's the point of Christianity?
If Christianity is the true religion then its values will transcend or trump current cultural values. If it doesn't then again what's the point of it?

I wouldn't expect you to like how I depict the bible, in fact I was counting on it. No one would argue against the idea of the earth being the center of the universe or the sun being pulled accross the sky by a chariot as being ridiculous; and yet the Bible, written by the same people in the same time, somehow is still relevant today. As for your next point if God is a being of infinite power that has existed longer than the universe itself I highly doubt the results of an election or the motivation of the voters matters all that much. Consider this, are you concerned with the day-to-day actions of an ant? Of course not and God is significantly higher above us than we are above ants.

No, actually, I don't believe every single word in the Bible to be the very word of God. You may heavily disagree here, but this is what I believe.
There are many, many passages, which hold the Bible together, spoken by God or Jesus and these are the very word of God himself. As for the material that does not come under this catergorisation, and the St. paul quotes being a good example, one needs to look at them more shrewdly and think "Okay, Paul's a nice enough guy, but would Jesus've agreed with him on this? My knowledge of Jesus would lead me to the conclusion 'no'".
Looks like Obama's got the Republicans and Hillary against him. Its looking like the country is eager for a bleek future. ![]()
from what iv seen on news here in uk obama hasnt got a clue he has a fancy tongue but no policys and not voting for a woman because she is a woman regardless of ability is pure stupidity, how in this day and age can the bible still hold so much sway over you? religion is a joke ffs not just the bible but all types and spirituality its laughable it doesnt even take much to prove this either with the stuff we know about the world, religion was created as a means of controlling the masses when effective government didnt exist way before the romans needed to create a new religion to keep people happy
Nobody needs to pay attention to the blabble of dave key, he's just a hippie.
hey, we pay attention to your blabble as well, and you are just a jesus-creep. we're polite that way.
how am i a hippie?, now we have and i use this term very loosely "effective government" religion is obsolite, if the bible is that real surely incest wouldnt be a sin seeing as though there was only adam and eve? who only had two sons? im no brain scientist but theres somthing very wrong going on there.so tbh id rather be a hippy than have wasted my life around a religion based around incest ![]()
Nazi's are liberal hippies compared to Joe
That with the genesis story. In the muslim one they made 4 times 4 diffrent children and they intermingeled. Or thats what the imam said.

the bible is a bunch of hogwash wrote long ago to scare people into thinking if they didnt abide by it they would be damned.
the bible as you know it is compromised of books only the catholic church would allow.
many other books of the bible were written but were left out because it didnt fit the popes plan.
the only true religion is the religion of "me".
if im true to myself then i can be true to my neighbors.
just ask "me" for forgiveness.
I've heard accusations leveled at Barack that he doesn't know what he's doing, that he's inexperienced. Might I remind everyone who feels this it is and ADMINISTRATION Obama will have advisors just like Bush did, hopefully not the same ones, who will give him information, reccomendations, and second opinions and all Obama will have to do is say, "This one souns best." Obama, like Bush and almost every other President, is well educated and fully capable of making decisions based on info given to him. Now that's not to say he'll always make the right decisions but he's more than capable of making them.
Now some people may read "well educated" and think he's smart, NO. I have met people with PHDs, MBAs, Masters degrees and certifications up the Yin Yang and some of them are quite possibly the dumbest people I will ever meet. Never assume that because an individual knows a lot of information that they're able to apply it to anything. I know people who can explain to you in exacting detail how a nuclear reactor works but they couldn't build, maintain, or even identify one if their live's depended on it.
An important thing to keep in mind about Obama is who he'll be compared to. Primarily he'll be compared to George W. Bush and Bill Clinton neither of which has been given accolades for making the best decisions.
I do hope Obama wins the Dems race and the Presidency because it will finally usher America into the 21st century to stand with all the other nations of the First World who've elected leaders who weren't rich, white, men. Admittedly my country elected a woman who lasted less than a year before being replaced but that is neither here nor there.

90% or so of folks in prison are men. So who're the sinners now? X( statistics pwn
