No it doesn't. That's like saying socialism works with a few private companies. Show me one capitalist state where no concessions need to be made to meet the demands of the many?

No pure doctrine can survive. If the majority of the poor population is unhappy you have to adopt a more socialist approach. If the big companies are sliding you have to push on the taxes and lean towards capitalism. It's all a cycle to keep everyone happy and keep the economy moving at the same time. If any of this fails, you get the proverbial revolution on your hands.

Simply put, policies must adapt to circumstances if a power structure desires to continue.

Capitalist elites may at times support welfare-type reforms to pacify the working class if they are desperate.

Well that's what happens pretty much all much over Europe and America nowadays. There is no pure left anymore. However I can't get myself to call this capitalism either. If anything we're in the face of elitism, a new form of government, from the outside (money owners) to the inside.

Anyways, this happened at most a week ago.  Hardly "Stop the press" sort of news.  I saw the headline on the NYTimes main page.  What eclipsed that?  The DNC and the Georgian-Russian conflict.

I am completely unsurprised, accidents happen, bad info is given, information is leaked.  I fully believe the US troops thought there were enemies in those buildings they were just wrong.  Though I'm not overly confident of the quality of judgement American military possesses; considering when the conflict started in Afghanistan an American pilot mistook Canadian soldiers in jungle camoflogue for Taliban because the higher ups didn't feel like telling their troops the Canadians would be having live fire exercises; I'm sure they judged the buildings to be a legitimate target before dropping the bombs as opposed to some yahoo having fun with the bombs, those bombs plus the fuel are expensive you know.

I dunno DPS, it was probably a misstake. It costed 90 lives though, and nobody even mentions it.
Also, I don't see why they are hunting these Talibans. I don't see what they have done. Yea they wanted woman to use special clothes and all.
Perhaps they were angry that the Talibans banned the drugs that they were making there (in the fields) and selling to the americans. I dunno.
Crazy that they are still bombing them though.

And you really can't call the people that had the government in a country a few years back for terrorists. So I dunno.

For one thing, the Taliban refused to hand over Al Qaeda.  They had bin Laden and a private army of 50,000 soldiers.

For another, Taliban executed men by stoning for shaving.

For yet another, Taliban is trying to destroy the democratic govt of Afghanistan which means AQ comes back.
