Catholicism though is not Christian.
It's the Babylonian religion with some terminologies Christians use to cover up the non-Christian practices."

Where the hell do you get that from?

(Yes, there are some RC teachings that are the same as the bible they put together from their archeological findings of Christian leader writings.  But there are also a bunch that are completely against those writings but are for the Babylonian religion ones.)

Re: The War of 1812 (A question strictly for Americans)

Newb, I've studied religious history this year, and let me tell you: the babylonians were never mentioned. I'm sure you're confusing it with "Mithras", a religion that existed in celtic Europe and wich heavily influenced christianity (like christmas etc). Another thing you might be refering at is Zoroastrism, wich did influence a lot of religions, and not solely the christian one; and in fairness, it didn't determinated the christial religion at all. There probably is some babylonian influence though, via the judaism, but all in all, it must be quite small, and not distinctive either.

I would love to respond to what you specifically typed above but instead I'll say:

Re: The War of 1812 (A question strictly for Americans)

wow, mithraism began in the East, popular especially among the Cilician Pirates. where do you get that confused w/ Celtic (western) europe and the whole "heavily influenced" thing, considering not much is known about Mithraism?

I'm aware of that, I just meant that the celtic form of it is what eventually influenced christianity. Sorry for confusing you tongue

Re: The War of 1812 (A question strictly for Americans)

which christianity? it came in through Manicheanism in the ROman era

Re: The War of 1812 (A question strictly for Americans)

and manicheanism was practised in anatolia, i thought. where do you get celtic mithraism? are you referring to the galatians (who were the only celts in anatolia)? as far as i know, mithraism was something of an antiquity scientology - cult club, not for mass consumers, and after the 2nd AD confined to the legions.

and to say mithraism influenced christianity is rather revisionist. it's like saying the minoans started the spanish tradition of bull-fighting. and considering mithraism didn't predate christianity, christianity being a 'heretical' offshoot of judaism, you can equivocate and say christianity influenced mithraism, for we know where the idea of eucharist in christianity comes from - passover; not so of mithraism.

wfs, why do you so readily embrace minority historical revisionism?

Re: The War of 1812 (A question strictly for Americans)

I think what everyone is trying to say is that the British were fighting 2 world powers (a dieing one and one just starting to rise, admittedly) and the best the Americans could do was keep them off the lands they already had long enough for a truce?

But I love how all the Americans here will spin this so that it was some great victory, and America's first steps to world dominance etc, etc, etc.

But of course Americans are good at spin. They'd learned it from the last 10 media-whore presidents.

well canadian you have to realize the last ten presidents have been in the age of the media.  the people are more swayed by the media than anything else (pathetic i know but what can you do).  So you cant blame them for playing at something that works.
