I don't think a whole city god destroyed. And I didn't say it justifies the action, I just wanted to point out the logic behind it..

Georgia has asked the United States to help transport the 2000 soldiers they have in Iraq to Georgia. I wonder if the transports will have fighter escorts which will in self defense shoot down a dozen or so Russian fighters in an 'unfortunate incident'.

I think the US will transport them, but use the "neutral status" of their vehicles, so they won't get attacked. And no american transport can take down 'a dozen' Russian fighters... If they use migs, the Americans will be glad not having to attack at all... You forget that Americans face a proper army then, rather then a disobedient population. In fact, it's been a long time since they actually fought against an army worth that name..
You missed the fighter escort I take it? Or deliberately ignoring it?
And Russia's jet fighters are only but targets to US fighters. This has been proven in the airs in many theaters time and time again.

Well even your fighters will not get a dozen proper russian fighters down And I doubt the russian fighters will be nothing more but targets, the latest MiGs are properly equiped, but that's not the point. The americans, if they decide to ship back those 2k of Georgian soldiers, will use their "neutral status", rather than attacking the russians....

i doubt russia will gain a square inch over this situation.
I dont know why the european union and the UN cried so much about the US invading Iraq but they dont cry now when the russians invade georgia. not that the crying will actually solve anything but still...
I think that everyone in the world hates america even though america has been trying to do good. I think the death toll in georgia will rise to over 100k. already 1500 dead in less than 48 hours. Ofcourse the EU will not speak about diplomacy because whatever Russia does it is still a great nation because it is a check against the evil Americans who are fat and ignorant.

The UN will voice it's opinion soon enough, the difference is that the Americans were preparing/travelling for ages before they attacked.

The world doesn't hate America, some regions hate that America uses its position to do whatever it feels like and and passes it on as "saving the world". The deathtoll won't reach 100k dead people. The EU will have to determine their pov yet, I'm sure some members will step in and try to get negociations going. As primo rightly said: Russia has nothing to gain in this conflict. I'm fairly sure this will be a short, yet regretable and rather heavy war..
Those are not bricks. They are additional armor plating, loose style, designed to add significantly to the areas that are commonly hit by anti-tank fire. This is supposed to allow tanks to take older rounds a few times without being destroyed or killing the crews.
However the round shape of their tanks turrents makes it hard to cover all aspects. Note the gun lacks additional armor on the face plate, as well as the top and bottom do not have additional armor. These tanks will not be able to take heavy artillery fire.
It'll be good to see what the U.S response is seeing that they endorse Kosovar and Tibetan (mostly members of the old feudal nobility and religious fanatics) separatists. Somehow I think they'll be less than consistent when it comes to backing the Russians and South Ossetia becoming independent.

the "bricks" on the tanks are reactive armor, when they sense the shockwave of an approaching warhead they explode and either destroy or slow down the approaching missle to the point it doesn't pierce the armor.
if you recall the flash seen on sloweddown video of 9/11 or the sparks on a blacksmith's anvil, that is compressed air that is so condensed so quickly that it ionizes into plasma. that happens a split second before the actual impact which is enough time for explosive armor to react and prevent a solid hit

Yes, even until the 1950s the vast majority of the Tibetan people were maintained as serfs to the monasteries or the nobility. As long as the central Chinese government allowed the Dalai Lama and his cronies to continue to do as they pleased including meting out harsh Sharia Law like punishments when it came to dealing with their inferiors, they were happy. It was only when Communist ideologues started to dismantle the feudal system in the name of socialism did the first "independence" fighters made up of disaffected nobility and lamas start the uprising. It's not surprising that most of the Tibetan population didn't decide to join them, given the lack of incentive.
Now apparently though the Dalai Lama and his buddies were all about democracy from the beginning. I make little distinction between the crackpot religious fundamentalists in Iraq trying to reinstate theocracy and the crackpot religious fundamentalists trying to reinstate the Dalai Lama as god-king over their fellow Tibetans.

South Ossetia has had de facto independence since 1992, Ossetians are a diferent ethnic group to Georgians & speak a different language, they have already declared themselves to be independent. they have more of a right to independence than Kosovo.
1. France went over here as an act of war against Great Britain. Formal, all-out war. Not "peacekeeping."
2. UN doesn't recognize "de facto" independence. There is no "Ossetian" ethnicity and they don't want independence. They're Great Russians and they want to be part of Russia. It's as phony as the Sudeten issue in 1938. For the same reasons.
3. The only reason people talk about independence for Kosovo is that Serbia wants Kosovo emptied of Kosovars. Above ground, anyway.

ossetians are an ethnic group- they live in in North Ossetia (Russian Federation) & South Ossetia (Georgia) & it would seem that the Georgians have been trying to kill as many Ossetian civilians as possible. ethnic cleansing, genocide. call it want you want but its high time Ossetians got self determination.
