oh and another note to justinian;
your disaproval of certain ways of thinking makes you blind for the strategic importance of having a strong europe as an ally. US or EU will never invade each other and are both more or less stable because of the democratic structure. Russia is unpredictable and far more unstable as it appears on the outside.
@bief:
thx for the link. ![]()
@subject
I thought this would be over in a week
"No longer can the US impose a unilateral foreign policy. We need to work with the other emerging great powers (Russia and China) by leaving their peripheral regions alone. We also need to work to cut down European power, because they of course are prone to idealistic/save the world motivations."
Justinian, your views are just anti-european, and not realistic, and that's all I'm going to say about it, it's not worth summing up what's wrong about it, let me just refer to the work of Peter N. Stearns..
I don
haha, thats brilliant! ![]()

Russia still has a shitload of nuclear weapons so has US. Little has changed in the concept of a cold war except for the people themselfs. Russia seeks to defend/expand itself not by "bufferzones" like stalin but by vital energy and rescource control.

But the EU may privately allow and/or help Russia or the Orient or the Arab nations attack the USA.
"I don
yeah newb,
the EU never gets enough public support for that sort of actions.
"
Saakashvili (or how is it written?) has had troubles with the Russians and the Ossetians for ages now. The thing is that the region is quite wealthy in natural resources, and as he tries to get rid of the corruption and the poverty his country's in, he needs those. He can't afford to lose it. I don't think he's that stupid to think he could get away with it, I'm sure he realised it'd only buy him enough time to get the plans far enough to gain actual control of the region, before the russians started a counteroffensive.

and thats a good excuse to destroy a whole city?
It doesn't even have skyscrapers!

now, if only EU wanted that this fantasy might start making some sense.

that doesn't matter when your constitution and new political system is being framed in such a way where your elected representatives can elect others to run the union without any accountability

...sorry, just thot i should bump this to keep this thread on-topic
Russia just started bombing Georgian targets in Abchazi
Sadly the USA no longer has the balls to deal with an aggressor nation, we insist on aggressive diplomacy after the supposed "quagmire" of Iraq.
As a nation of 300 million with an $11,000,000,000,000 economy we insist we can do less than when we had 130 million and $2,000,000,000,000 GDP
EU of course was founded on doing nothing ![]()
I didn't say aggression against US.
Russia is an aggressor out for a land grab. I thought we didn't allow that crap.
EU wont even announce talks about sanctions on this one, cause Russia would stop their precious oil and natural gas deliveries.
They won't even go so far as to be to strongly critical and will restrain any nations which stand up for Georgia.
Whats that sound I hear? Oh thats history mentioning in a cough a little nation known as Austria and the march of a would be again super power of that time. My question is who gets to play Chamberlain this time?
