Did you see that [stuff]???? CRAZY
Countdown was awesome
How many freaking fireworks were there again? Wow!
Because Hitler used the 1932 Games to highlight his Reich. And since then it always has that context.
Actually, quite a western show for a bunch of Commies ![]()
I enjoy watching nations come out w/like 5 athletes marching.....just so proud to be there.
They may stand no chance at a medal in thier event, but they made it to the Olympic Games to represent their Country.
Amazing natural pride.

It's what I have termed "indirect" politics...heh/groan.
Go Canada!!!
(yeah yeah, i know we won't be one of the top countries in the total medals category)
What I found was funny, was that the Soviet Union was 2nd on the all time medal list, despite not exisiting for the last 5 (?) odd olympics... go commies!
[watch your personal attacks, this is a warning]
"Go Canada!!!

Are we ever? We have maybe 2 months of decent summer weather, nobody expects us to do well in the Summer Olympics, just like no one expects an excellent showing from Kenya in the Winter Olympics.
I've always kind of disliked the Olympics. It just seems the money spent on the Olympics could be better spent on something more worthwhile. Like how the Winter Olympics are coming to Canada, I don't want them to. Last time we hosted the Olympics was in Montreal they built a brand new stadium and only used it the one time. Then again I'm against professional sports in general as I don't think anyone should be able to make a living playing a game.

Ok, I agree that the Olympics are USUALLY a waste of money and time!
(when you compare benefits against disadvantages, not just one or the other)
But I'll defend your right to be wrong regarding professional sports in general!!! ![]()
Professional sports in the US/Canadian sense should be banned, they are not real sports, just general entertainment to the basest level
lol, you dung disturber you!!!
the russians stole them the show
@youfool:
we can easely ignore your personal insults directed to whoever but it will cause for many more spamming up this forum when endless replies start comming in. Is there any good reason at all to post them on an anonimous online forum? This is ment just a question, not a an insult.
@subject:
These naive and hypocrit opening ceremonies disgust me anyway but now its even worse.
"Actually, quite a western show for a bunch of Commies"
They're not communists, only in name. And what should that have to do with their show?
DPS the olympics will help vancouver A LOT
it's guna give businesses an extreme boost, just like it did with montreal
and i just came back from montreal actually and was at the olympic stadium aswell, it's still making money, there was a huge lineup for the caple car ride
,
and yeah the opening ceremony was just AMAZING, i thought the best part was like near the begining with the boxes that had the ppl inside them and they made different signs, symbols, illusions, it was CRAZZYYY
, they must've practised for years, just like everyone else involved, and even then it was hard to pull off
I worry for the people who made mistakes however. China is not forgiving as most nations. During the box scene just at the formation of the first symbol a man on the left of the symbol stood up for to long. I hope human rights groups will monitor the man frequently to make sure there is no prison sentence for him on that mistake, or worse a death sentence for 'his crime against the people'.
Also the technical failures... a suit that did not flash (Stayed off the whole time) and a drum that stayed lit up. Who is going to get 20 lashes for those failures? The person using the equipment, then tech who worked on them last, or both?
Flint, for the love of God.. Do you have any proof of such actions or are you just making stuff up again?
And deci, you can't blame him for this one, communications are rather bad since their country is being invaded by the Russians!

What news services in the world do not show the human rights violations of China? Only the Chinese ones.
And yet people like Alan seem to not know this. How deep is the brainwashing Alan?
Do you routinely ignore the fact that China is the #1 in death penalty judgements in the world? Do you ignore their frequent and flagarant human rights violations? Or the substandard construction in buildings outside the major cities? Or the massive corruption? Or the Imperialism of China?

Keep ignoring until your mother, father, sister, brother, son, daughter, cousins, aunts, uncles, neices, nephews and spouse are all taken away... the next knock is for you.

What about the americans then? They to have the death penalty (5th place). The US also violates human rights (long live Guantanamo / Abu Ghraib). And I wouldn't start on the imperialism-thing, America has done the same thing for decades now (Allende perhaps?).
And none of your articles tell us that the lads who made a mistake will be sentenced to death or even get a punishment. Yes it's true that China is a massive violator of human rights, and that they're imperialist and the whole thing, but nothing of that justifies/proves your comment.
It entirely validates my comment since China has routinely arrested people for even as low a crime as embarrassing them. Yes embarrassment can get you 5 years in China.
I agree with Deci there..
On a sidenote, making embarrasing your country a felony could be a good way to improve americas image (as proven by those linkies Deci supplied in the georgian thread) ![]()
EDIT: the last line was a joke
