"Did Britain or did Britain not board US merchant vessels and encourage bordering Native Americans to skirmish US territory?"
Yes they did. The boarding of merchant vessels was, and if I'm not mistaken still is, common practice in war. Let's use a hypothetical. Say the US was involved in open war with another nation. Now let's say that a third nation was trading with America's enemy (not weapons but other commodoties) and had a history of military cooperation with the enemy. Would US ships not stop these boats to A) Check for weapons being supplied to their enemy and B) Choke their enemy's supply lines. When trading with a nation at war it is irrational to think that nation's enemy will not try to stop you. The Brits boarding American boats was never an act of aggression against the US it was a legitimate tactic, one that France would have employed had they held naval superiority, to cut off supplies to their enemy. As the saying goes, "It's not personal, it's just business."
Was it just Mass or Rhoad Island as well that threatened no action was not in "the best wishes of the commonwealth" as I believe I remember it.
I thought you were referring to that.

1. It's a common British war crime when they could get away with it.
2. The only time I'm aware the USA has done it is in recent decades in the Persian Gulf, when shipping of all nations near Iraq has been subject to search. During blockades we order international shipping to neutral ports, ie anywhere BUT Cuba.
3. They didn't search for contraband or war materials but any trade without approval of their stinky empire.
4. Brits kidnapped US citizens and impressed them into the Royal Navy.
I fail to see how this was a British victory; by the standards I hear offered, the Kaiser won WWI.
The Kaiser asked for terms.
The Kaiser had his armies on foriegn soil.
The Kaiser lost fewer men.
The Kaiser made a truce with the other combatants in Europe.
The Kaiser burned enemy capitals.
The Kaiser's govt didn't want to fight anymore.
The Kaiser blew a last ditch offensive.
Just like the Brits in 1815! Huzzah and Heil!
be sure and put that in your paper
Sorry to say folks
but this specific thread is about egos defending their nationalities (including Canadian).
No truth, without being spun into lies, will be fully shared until we all take an objective view and leave our passions for our respective nations at the door.
By the way, no I am not for a one world human/angelic power.
I'm against it.
Oh, and I am Canadian.
Yes I am proud that previous Canadians were winning the war in 1812 against the Americans and burnt their White House down.
But I'm onlyl proud of that cuz they were going to overtake our country.
George Washington (and Abraham Lincoln) were against attacking foreign nations on foreign soil.
OK being dispassionate
British Empire got lucky.
@ Newb....
Am I mistaken to note ..... You are of Quebec ?
How did your family get to Canada.... if I may ask.
Reason.....be honest, you have family history back to 1812 on both Mommy's and Daddy's sides of the family ??

I don't know any French phrases, except (lol) "Fermay la boosh!"
EDIT:
And one other one...
"Mair see ba coo!!!" ![]()
German heritage. How did I figure that Yell.
My family were German stone cutters from the Dortmund Region....Papas side.
German/Scottish on my mothers side....
So, 1812.....I guess my family was hoping Napolean didnt get any further north.
Imagine that.
"I find it quite interesting how warped many of the facts have become throughout YOUR telling of what happened during this time."
The same could be said about Canadians clinging to this little morsel of martial pride, which is a scarce commodity in Canada.
I often find national pride (which is essentially what this thread is about) quite funny although to be honest I really don't understand it. All a country is is a lump of rock and mud, what is so special about that? The only other possible source of national pride I can see beyond rock and mud love is some kind of bond with the rest of the people from your own country. However, I don't really think I have ever noticed a difference in the proportion of people I get on with of my own nationality and those of other nationalities. So what is it all about? Especially historical national pride, when as BW and Yell have pointed out, the people you are defending or referring to as "we" are quite likely not to be your ancestors.
Patriotism is for people unable to think for themselves and needing a solid base of other people with whom to share common ideas in order to define themselves or re assure each other that they are right. Grow some balls and think for yourselves!

Who needs martial pride we've got beer and maple syrup.
And a maple leaf in the center of their flag!

I don't know about you but I am a patriot of my country.
Maybe patriotism doesn't mean anything for you, because You don't have the need to identify with a people that share your backround and most likely, your way of thinking. Maybe your part of a large nation with a large population and can't identify yourself in the mass.
But when you are a part of a people that number under 1 million(thats about 0.01% of the world population) you have to have national pride or you'll get mixed in a gray blob that is modern society.
You don't know how it feels to know that your ancestors were enslaved by foreign nations for 700 years...
the christian invaders forced upon us their religeon and their feudal way of life. At the end of WWI it patriotism that freed my country from russia. Most volunteers were schoolboys and thanks to their patriotism we won the war for our independence and in 1940 lost it again due to lack of. now my country is free again from opression thanks to my peoples will to survive and remember our language. But now the eastern threat is again looming and it is showing that it is not afraid to expand it's grasp once again. My fellow countryman, who is chief advisor to georgias prasident said, that strong international action must be taken against russia before its too late.
I'd agree but the influence of us right-wingers is diminished these days

(a pope apology style):
I'm sorry if this offends you, but most of those leaders and most of those Crusade followers weren't Christians.
They definitely were Roman Catholics!
(which is the Babylon religion infiltrating the Christian church groups with their own beliefs but changing the terminology and lingo to ones Christians were and are familiar with...in a word: deception)
"I'm sorry if this offends you, but most of those leaders and most of those Crusade followers weren't Christians.

Same holy book, same saviour, same rules. There are more differences between types of apples then there are between Catholics and the rest of the Christian population. Face it Catholics are Christians.
Personally I'm not a patriot, I support my country in so far as it suits my needs. If I felt an invading force could do better I'd help them.

Some Catholics are Christians.
Catholicism though is not Christian.
It's the Babylonian religion with some terminologies Christians use to cover up the non-Christian practices.
Well, at least you're honest about your being non-patriotic.
And at least you're honest about why you only temporarily support your country.
Many aren't.
we should have left your government building there, maybe your egos wouldn't be so big if your white house was still pink we did you a favour
