Topic: A lesson in truth about Oil

Todays politicians like to quote a 10 year rule.

They constantly say this line:

Environment Florida spokeswoman Holly Binns told the Media General news group that offshore drilling has no immediate impact on prices.

"It would take anywhere from seven to 10 years to bring those resources to shore

Re: A lesson in truth about Oil

You have to prove your point to me if your serious about it, not me going through trouble to prove your point to myself.
(if you understand what i just said)
and that link just proves how much the US imports. Now don't get me wrong...
I'm all for US drilling in their own country regardles of how much they get out of it etc...
But for the sake of discussion you still haven't proven it can be done so quickly and efficiently.

Re: A lesson in truth about Oil

Ok more to come soon since this thread died to early...

But a hint

Black Gold the TV show has a 50 day deadline to try to drill 9 wells with 3 rigs. Yes 9 wells. One of the three will not make it, but they will get 8 wells in 50 days. Yes I said 50 days for 8 wells.

They show the difficulties in getting this oil.

Oh by the way...

How long did it take the United States to gear up, and win World War II with our production?

This is relevant, but I am 100% sure no Liberal can correctly guess how. It requires them to use common sense, intelligence, and other things lacking in a Liberal mind.

Great argument Flint. Perhaps I should add that to my thesis!
If you're making a point, or try to prove something, it's you who has to come up with the sources wink

Re: A lesson in truth about Oil

I wonder if Michael's sources exist outside of his mind? A valid question I think as he is insistent on not providing sources.

Re: A lesson in truth about Oil

Ok how bout we stake reputations, or stake serious apologies, or stake something serious? Or stake anything on this.

I want your heads handed to me on a platter by yourselves should I go and do the 'research' for your lazy asses in a way which will utterly prove to the layman, who we assume exists, that I was posting the truth?

Go ahead, put something into that pot...

Re: A lesson in truth about Oil

If you prove it to me with credible sources I'll say your right and if you turn up with nothing or BS you'll just embarass yourself.

PS. we have the right to be lazy not you.

Re: A lesson in truth about Oil

a quick search of "china drilling offshore american oil" led to

http://lighthousepatriotjournal.wordpress.com/2008/06/06/myth-blaster-china-cuba-and-india-drilling-offshore-of-america/

you can read it yourself to see whether china is really drilling oil fields near florida.

Re: A lesson in truth about Oil

I'm going to opt with the pro-source disclosure group on this one.  Sorry, Flint!

1: Obviously, it helps to separate you, who do actually have a source for your information, from other people who don't, and who are just pulling shit out of their asses.  That puts you one level up over those people right from the start.

2: Without a backup source, the primary source becomes... you.  No offense, Flint, but, for the most part, I wouldn't put credibility in people on internet forums as primary sources, and I wouldn't expect others to do the same for me, even if I did have an expertise in the particular field, because there's no verification.

3: You could be lying.  Not saying you are, but other people who do the same thing you did could, in theory, lie, which means the same could be said of you.  The only difference is an issue of individual credibility, which is subjective based on the reader's personal views of you.

4: Even if you're completely honest, and you do have a source for your information, the validity of that source may be less than accurate for any number of reasons.  A statistic could have a miscalculation, an author could have been less than honest... or your source could simply be outdated in light of changing times.  Or it could be perfectly fine.  Either way, it allows readers to verify the primary source so they know whether the argument is valid.

Flint, for the love of god, if you don't supply any sources, your point is invalid by default. That's just how it goes! Defenatly when you supplied really disputable sources before (like that yahoo forum last time)...

Re: A lesson in truth about Oil

There is a lot of talk about oil these days.

And more lies than there is oil.

Commonly quoted fallacy of the year: "It will take ten years".

First it was ten years to get to the oil. Then it was ten years to get the oil to the market as gas. Then it became ten years before it has an impact upon prices.

Why the changes? Well it's because each stance has been upset and knocked down as a lie.

Fact #1
It took 4 years to lay the Alaska Pipeline and to do the majority of the oil wells.

Fact #2
Black Gold, a Tru TV show, has a 50 day deadline for 3 drilling rigs to try to get 9 wells. Currently they are on schedule to get 8 for sure.

Fact #3
In WWII the construction of Liberty ships exceeded 38,603,950 weight in displacement tons. The 2710 of these ships made each carried 10,000 tons of cargo. This is a net of 27,100,000 tons of cargo. This is just in a single cargo ship class. Forget battleships, forget aircraft carriers, aircraft, bombs, bullets, and otherwise.. just think of this number.

This is essentially an offshore oil well per ship. We did this over 4 years. Thats 677 ships (or offshore oil wells) per year. The United States can easily get all offshore oil if we did a large under-taking. Ok ok the The Thunder Horse oil production facility weighs 50,000 tons, so I am taking liberties (no pun intended) with the cargo weight of the ships also.

http://www.mms.gov/itd/pubs/1997/97-0007/opratn.pdf

This shows we have done roughly 33 thousand wells already in the oceans. The most dug was just over 200 in a year. If we added 700 oil wells a year we could dramatically drill out a LOT of holes and find a LOT of oil!

Fact #4-#7
The Thunder Horse oil production facility will process 250,000 barrels a day, the Atlantis oil platform is set for 200,000 barrels a day. Mad Dog is getting 50,000 barrels a day, Holstein is getting 110,000 barrels a day, and more rigs are currently in production. Note this is a proven 160,000 barrels a day!

Fact #8
The Sierra Club has stated the most OCS (Outer Continental Shelf) Oil we can get is "a meager 220,000 barrels per day". Yes they say 220,000 barrels a day at most. And they say it will take 17 years to reach this height.

Fact #9
This is based on a Energy Information Administration (EIA) report about the offshore drilling we can do.

http://www.eia.doe.gov/oiaf/aeo/otheranalysis/ongr.html

Take a look at the total oil out there. 59 billion barrels of recoverable oil. If we tried to make this last 100 years this is 590 MILLION barrels a year, aka 1.6 million barrels a day. This is a far cry from 220,000 barrels a day.

Fact #10
Next we have the 'estimate' of 17 years. It took 3 years to make Mad Dog and install it and get it fully operational.  Thunder Horse took 4 years to become operational after suffering a ballast error and having to sit out Hurricane Katrina. This is a FAR CRY from the 17 years.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When you start looking at the facts you can see the politicians and false scientists (Since they seem to fail basic math) are distorting information.
We can have 600 new oil wells a year if we put ourselves to WWII standards, and get about an average of 75,000 barrels per rig for a total of 16,425,000,000 barrels a year... yes 16 billion barrels. Not that we need to go to this level, but we could easily if we wanted to.
Now we consume 20.73 million barrels of oil per a day. This would cover up to 4.5 million barrels a day from offshore IN LESS THAN 5 years! And this is the more complicated way to get the oil. Assuming we want to stretch it we have 1.6 million barrels a day for 100 years.
Next up the on land drilling capabilities of the United States.
