Sith: the issue isn't that the current system isn't good, is that fams abuse it and with current player attitudes it doesn't actually indicate a good round. Also there is no real difference between nw and planets in who was better. Why have nw if you won't use it as a indicator of how well a person/family has performed? Adding to that traditionally NW has been a bigger indicator of winner status than planet count, and it is only in very recent times that people have been claiming that size is a better indicator.

However:
NW ranking encourages imperial savings and loan type savings and massive jump of a player(s) specially picked for the role, ie nw dropped so con bonus is high. Thus nw is abused by people saving and not playing the game...

Size ranking however is also n ogood as it encourages farming, nap breaking and other highly suspicious dealings, just look at the last MW round for good examples of this, everyone was accused of doing dodgy shit there, and there is clearly a case for asking the question, who actually won. If there were IA's and such like, then those people should be punished, but they won't be removed from the rankings anyway, so then the rankings are pointless anyway.

So what is the answer? That is not so certian, however it needs to be a community answer, and it needs to be universal across all playing galaxies, as there is no point having one system one place and another elsewhere. ATM the only option being seriously put forward is Nai's, which I actually think is a good idea, and thus I want to help make this a community wide concept.

To look at your examples:

a) any cheats in the london marathon would be kicked out, and the person crowned the winner would be the true winner.
b) The points system in principle would be no different to any other sport, such as NASCAR (from which Nai derived it) or even cycling, ie tour de france.
c) Taking football, the person who wins the last game isn't nessarily the winner, it is the person who won the most games over the season. IE Chelsea wins all the games but the last game, but the arse win their last game but lose al lthe rest, who actually won? This is the same as a fam being way out at front the whole round but the last tick where some other fam leaps ahead... now imagine that the arse pulled some dodgy shit, like setting up the draw so they had all the bottom teams at the end of the season, or paid other clubs to lose, etc... Who has won now? Same as fams farming bottom fams at the EOR just to get planets to win by size, or having IA's tyo get the planets.... are they truely winners?

Or is a true winner a fam which is consistantly at the top of the rankings?

you_Fool ant such a fool, i think that it would make sence to do something like that. maybe not that way but someway. i alleast know that i agree about how stupid it is how people end up on top cause of jumps and crap, just cause they can save all round. and have everyone in there family give everything to them.

how about something simple like this......

every 24 ticks we score points based on where we are ranked.
1st place would recieve 1 point,2nd place would recieve 2 points,3rd place 3 points and so on...
the family who has the lowest score at eor is the winner,tye breakers will be based on highest planet count as the winner.

Jack: Only in the last few years has size become more important than nw. Neither are good indications really.

As for just forcing farming and jumps earlier, that happens anyway but farming and econ jumps are hard tyo maintain over long periods of time, and wars happen adn all sorts... an overal lranking is not the best option, but it is an option, and if Nai is going to do it in cap then someone should do it here, in the same manner as Nai will do it... there is no point it being only half done...
