I don't mind them to check computers, but I surely have problems with the "indefenite" part.... It's inhuman..

Usually since 2001 really anal security indicates definite leads
Guess you'll have to print your pr0n onto transparencies ![]()
It's not the porn, but it's how they're allowed to violate personal rights like that.
Thats border crossing, using a software to copy software. The indefinite is usually just a cover to protect the indeterminate period of time it takes to copy your hard-drive... think of someone putting a motor in theirs which makes it takes 20 days to access info on their hard-drive to thwart customs.
Trust me that crooks would do it. It does make for some good ways to reduce certain crimes, for sure, but frankly only on the idiots. I should hope that there is a hidden criteria behind it for people acting even remotely suspicious or not nice to customs officers.
"Will you hurry up, I should have been through here an hour ago, your so damned slow! This backup at this entry should just be allowed to drive through!" says the iritable border crosser...
"Mam is that a laptop?"
"Yes it is. And no there are no mexicans hiding inside it!"
"I will have to see that laptop under these rules and regulations"
"What???!??!?! When do you have that power??!?"
"Oh for a while. We will call you when you can come get it again"
*Shocked face* on harrasser... *sputtering* "When.... when... when I can come get it again?"
"Thats right, we have the right to review all software, all files, all folders on your laptop, this is clearly expressed here, (pointing) here, here, and here. I am afraid we will be reviewing it for a while"
"But that guy next to me had a laptop and just pulled away, I did not see him give his away!"
"Oh we randomly choose, we do not need to do 100%, but we do copy many many laptops. I am afraid yours is just one of them now."
ACLU will of course be suing soon I am sure... but it will be squelched somehow, but a compromise will be made.
Funny how Democrats closed Congress before this could be handled... Guess she really needed to do her book tour huh?
I'm sure our fubar Supreme Court will give "personal rights" to foriegners at the border.
During WWII some Justice said "The Constitution is not a suicide pact" but that is no longer true ![]()
PS what the hell is new to EU? "Omg I went to the US and somebody with a gun took my laptop" DUHHHHH we BEEN knowing that would happen
anything smuggled through laptops across the border could be smuggled into the US through encryption and the internet....
Physical transport of the data is still most secure.
Even with quantam encryption the weakness is the physical security of the operator
whats the point? If you want to move illegal computer files, just use the internet....
stupid americans...
or you could smuggle in the hard drives. or if you're going across the border with your laptop, just remove the harddrive ahead of time, and if they ask for your laptop, give it to them without the hard drive.
This is just another case of Americans rushing to give away their civil liberties. Typical, bunch of freakin' sheep.
since when do you have a civil liberty to haul anything across our border?
100% of 9/11 hijackers were foriegners
so common sense says you foriegners have to stand more scrutiny
