Topic: Summer Storm

My first story in a long time, written quickly so apologies for typos etc :-) Please let me know what you think

The downpour swept into the market place at noon, brushing the dusty city down and providing welcome relief for travellers from the closeted stifling heat of summer. Shoppers, dressed in Sundays finery dashed for cover from the market as the children ran outside laughing and playing, ignoring shouts of their parents behind.

To the one figure standing alone in the plaza the rain was more blessing than most, cooling the numbing pain that pierced his skull. To the man stood alone in that place the fact that pain was a self inflicted product of his love for fine liquor (and foul liquor for that matter) was not an issue, for he was too lost in self pity again, as always. He took a swig from what a passer by would take to be a water skin, feeling the tongue numbing taste of whiskey in his mouth and the pain receded slightly, replaced by the sorry growl of a stomach too used to drink and too little to food.
