Topic: Abolish Bottled Water!

Why are we transporting tonnes and tonnes of bottled water across nations, and even globally? It makes absolutely no sense to me. In the West, we have among the cleanest water supply by tap in the world.  What's more, the Bottled Water tycoons have us all paranoid we'll get the lurgy if we get our water from the tap, or that water from an ancient mountain spring has some sort of phenomonal de-anti-detoxifying-oxidant healing property. It's mindless practises like these which are trashing up our planet. Peace.

Drink! Send all the bottled water to third world countries!

Re: Abolish Bottled Water!

I'd still want bottles though. Bottles FOR tap water.

Doesn't really make a difference, why even care.

You've got no argument now! I care because it's a pointless activity, (a good panorama show on TV a couple of weeks ago,) and we can make a difference.

Re: Abolish Bottled Water!

bottled water tastes a lot better than the crap(py tasting) water that comes out of most taps; but you have these special pitchers that purify tap water to a point that it tastes just like bottled water so I agree that bottled water is a wastefull luxury we should get rid of on the dinner table, and use it only when you're actually outdoors where you don't have access to tap water or whatever

Re: Abolish Bottled Water!

Our tap water tastes just fine, needs no filter or anything. In fact, I think it tastes much better than bottled water, which has a horrible taste. It just got all kinds of junk in it and all kinds of good stuff filtered out of it. Whenever I have a bottle of water with me, it's one I filled from the tap. I actually never buy bottled water when I'm somewhere, I just buy something else tongue

I'll never know if it was worth the pain, but I still loved it more than anything in the world - it was my life.

Re: Abolish Bottled Water!

Bottled water is actually unhealthier than tap water big_smile The safety standards aren't as  high and the materials in the plastic leech into the water over time....uggy big_smile Actually...you should avoid eating anything wrapped in plastic and avoid storing any food in plastic. Plastic contaminates food yikes

Then of course there's the waste (both in terms of wasted water as well as the plastic) bottled water produces. sad

I drink a lot of water (like 5 to 6 litres), and I have to say that if it's all tapwater, I'm feeling rather sick at the end of the day. I'm no big fan of bottled water either, but since my parents refuse me to buy a filtering water can, I keep drinking bottled water wink

The water from my taps isnt free... and in Yorkshire, tastes utter crap, compared to sparkling mineral water smile Hell, I can see small bits of plumbing floating around in a glass I poured earlier to clean a few knives in...

Re: Abolish Bottled Water!

Tap water is full of who knows what... Chlorine, numerous other chemicals, and even Fluorine.

That said, Brita water jugs are supposed to filter 98% of that crap.

But that doesn't help me. My tap water has sulfur in it, and Brita doesn't filter that. So I either get town water from a neighbour 2 roads over (which I do often, as our crapy town council won't extend the public water pipes for some years to come), or buy water (which is expensive).

Re: Abolish Bottled Water!

I will formally accept this as part of my political stance. Bottled Water from a tap is here by not acceptable by my candidacy. Filtered water in a bottle, provided there is proof of filtering, and of measurable filteration will not be opposed, nor will flavored water. However straight tap water will be opposed and I believe the best way is via taxation of it as a product for the obvious and blatant consumerism manipulation behind it.

No offence intended, but if Belgian water standards are like French water standards then I am not surprised.

Um, Wouter?  It's 33 Euro for a Brita water pitcher.  http://www.brita.net/be/jugs_details.html?L=3&p_id=234&cat=
you should be able to scrape that together

to get rid of sulphur install a Reverse Osmosis filter under the sink.

No, the water's quite good to be honest, just not suitable in large quantities, probably because of the chloride in it..
