Topic: Galactic Event: Portal Havoc

As a few of you guys predicted, MW55 is feeling too long and/or too small.

I think, however, that the solution isn't to end early or to make galaxies bigger.  Rather, we should find ways facilitate conflict in a galaxy that is already full.

I am considering adding a new galactic event called "Portal Havoc" (better name suggestions welcome) that randomly destroys a larger percentage of portals in the galaxy.  Not only that, but when this event is active, you would also not be allowed to build new portals.

The trigger for this event would be random but weighted towards higher chance of happening as the % of portalled planets across the galaxy grows.  A the start of the round for example, it's not likely for this to occur.  On the flipside, if/when 80% of the galaxy's planets are portalled, it becomes more and more likely that mass portal destruction occurs.

Some of the details need to be worked out still, but this is the general idea.  The whole point is to stimulate activity and force people out of their safety zones.  No more early wins, and we could see multiple war phases as this happens throughout the round.

Thoughts?  Concerns?

I like the idea in general, but in terms of MW55 feeling too long... I think this is just because all fams had to fight for space early on and therefore napped early after those fights... 5 weeks after explo phase is just too long.

Not sure Portal Havoc is a good event.

It could easily wreck a family's entire strat. Saving for War - Nap cancellations - Planet Flipping - all that would just go on hold, a massive random effect for something that you wouldn't be able to predict, or mitigate very much.
Galactic events generally reward families who are working together.

Portal Havoc would seem to almost exclusively punish smaller fams that are getting their act together mid round.

Of course its not a "good" event ... but good things do not always happen. 

Exclusively hurt small fams?  I don't think so.  Small fams would love for larger fams who have been popping their portals left and right to suddenly become vulnerable themselves.

Except small fams cannot hit them because they don't have portals either. =P

It would come down to families that can afford lases and families that cannot - and well big fams have 'em and small fams usually dont.

In MW you can currently fight wars from just HS. Port havoc effect would be small.  For larger universes i think this event could indeed make things more interesting.

I would prefer a cap on ports though rather than a random event because strategy and not  luck should be rewarded.

Make it so you can have max 1-port per system and max 10% portalled, with a minimum of 10 ports you can always built.

if gone use  kind of that event  be sure there  naps should be off others it doesnot have much effect on game

I really like the sound of this, especially if morale is removed. The only issue is that defending banker planets with infra would become impossible unless something gets changed in that regard (I posted a while ago about having planet population add defense to planets).

I like the fact it will make it a lot more strategic.
Although if you went to war or got in to a fight and you lose then the winning family is going to smash the losing family in to the ground so they don't challenge them again!..

I seriously cant see a family that is winning a war turning around and saying we are winning this easily the other family has conceded lets stop and let them recover to challenge us again
