Topic: Starburst drafts

Can we increase the number of drafts to 2 or 3?

Right now, you can draft 1 person, meaning you can guarantee 2 players to be in the fam together.

Most systems in IC work with -at least- 3 man teams (banker/ressie/attacker), plus, with three you can actually accomplish something. On top of that: when you get yourself VIP that gives you two draft options (which is basically the only perk left on a VIP), and now you're only able to use 1.

All side arguments really, I just want to play in a fam with 2 or 3 buddies, and not just 1 and have to see if I get lucky that more buddies end up in the fam.

Hence I would suggest to increase the max drafts to 2 or 3. Keep in mind 2 drafts still means 6 (actually 7) other players have to random in, with three that is still 5 (actually 6).

Re: Starburst drafts

I honestly don't think we have enough people left playing to do this.

8 families

69 players

3 active join a family that makes 24 active.

That leaves 45 players...

I'd assume half are inactive.  Or once a dayers

What if an active player doesn't draft, and ends up in a family with 3 drafts they hate? You can't delete,  you will go inactive and kill another player.

I think 1 draft is a fine number considering most families start with 8 and a handful will be inactive.

Also how many can find active friends to play with?

Without being forced to play with others, you don't really learn new things.

Until the player populous grows to 12+ a fam I don't think a need for 2 drafts.

And what happens if you join a family that's used up the draft,  your stuck anyways.

Re: Starburst drafts

I don't see how forcing randoming solves that problem.
Active players random now into crappy fams or fams with people they don't like and let the round go too.
If I were to have a crappy round, in a fam with 2 guys I drafted, I'd still finish the round.

"Without being forced to play with others, you don't really learn new things."

That still happens with drafts no? It's 3 players per fam, assuming all draft spots are being used.

In all honesty, I think draft spots even equalize the powerbalance in fams. Right now we have rounds where many active and good players end up in one fam. Bringing in more drafts, would also spread the skilled players over the fams, as they draft eachother in. Making every fam a decent place to land for the randoms.

Re: Starburst drafts

I definitely support the idea of more drafts for each family. I've wanted to get friends of mine to try the game but since they've never played, but it feels like a waste to use the one draft spot on a n00b instead of a more experienced player. I certainly would not introduce a brand new player if it was not guaranteed they would be in my family.

If the argument against extra drafts is that "super fams" will form, I would say that this already happens in the current state of the game. Last round I had 8 fam members who I would say would each definitely be worth a draft spot. Statistical variance already makes it so that there will be one or two families with consistently "better" players on average than other families. The only downside I can see is that there might be more of a divide between top and bottom where the top few fams have good competition from each other and the bottom fams are equal with each other but the gap between is huge. I don't think that would be influenced very much though if more than half the spots are randoms.

But man is not made for defeat. A man can be destroyed but not defeated

Re: Starburst drafts

bump, no comments on this one? Ok then let's do it!

Re: Starburst drafts

I got this. Here's what we will do -- we will first elect 8 leaders from the pool of existing players. Afterwards the chosen leaders will play a round of Saggy D to see in which order they get to draft. Then those 8 leaders will pick their families, much like sports teams do on draft day.

Let the games begin...

Re: Starburst drafts

How about trying more drafts out next round Pie?

I would very much like not to be randommed into a fam with people that go inactive after a few days, or just delete in the middle of the round.... And I would really like to play this game with the people I actually play this game for.

This has been done b4. Albeit a long time ago. It was called ic playground. It was good fun but as with most things there were a lot more players. Last one I played was in 2006 tongue

i can't resist a good dumb joke
why do you think i bought IC?

Re: Starburst drafts

I'm leaning towards doing this for SB R27.  If nothing else than to try something different and see how it plays out.

Got a few bucks?  The Imperial Tip Jar is accepting contributions!
