Topic: Earth Time: August 2016 in Review

Hello ICers,

It’s been quite a month!  The ownership transition has been completed and went smoothly for the most part, aside from a few instances of downtime.  Your patience has been much appreciated.

So what have we been up to?  Quite a bit actually, so let’s jump right in:

Community updates

Discord

Our new chat has been taking off.  If you aren’t there yet, why not?  Stop by and chat up some of the noobies and oldbies alike.

Email support

You can now reach us directly via email instead of having to try to catch a team member on chat in order to get help.  The forums are still an option of course, but [email protected] is there for you if/when you need it.

Staff shakeup!

In an effort to better serve the community, we’ve restructured our team roles and responsibilities.  The Mod team isn’t changing, however they are no longer by default also Forum Moderators and Chat Moderators.

Speaking of Chat Moderators, please do welcome Vegnarok as our newest addition to the team!  He’ll be assisting with chat wrangling, and as some of you know he’s the one who pointed us to Discord in the first place.  Thanks again Veg!

That puts the current team as:

  • Admin

    • I_like_pie

  • Moderators

    • KT

    • Undeath

    • Zarfy

  • Forum Moderators

    • I_like_pie

    • Zarfy

  • Chat Moderators

    • I_like_pie

    • Vegnarok

New Facebook group

We have a new facebook group for current and past players to stay in touch.  This is not meant for game related news, info, etc.  It's a more loose collective meant for anything really.  Cat pictures?  Sure!

https://www.facebook.com/groups/imperialconflict/

For actual game related matters you can see the official Facebook IC product page.

https://www.facebook.com/imperialconflict/

Much thanks to the I.R.I.K. team for helping resolve our issues with the previous Facebook group.  Those issues are in the past and we're working towards a new era of improved relations for everybody.

Site updates

Forum cleanup

We've cleaned up the forum and got rid of the following boards:

  • Map forum

  • Morale forum

  • Honor forum

  • Universal News graveyard

  • General graveyard

  • Politics graveyard

The conversations within them are still here, they've just been redistributed to feedback/questions/bugs/ideas accordingly.  The graveyard threads in particular have simply moved back to their original board.

That should tidy things up a bit!

Misc changes

  • We have a new homepage image that is now NOT a ripoff of something else.  Thanks to those who brought this to my attention.

  • SSL certs have been set up for the site.  Thank you Mace for pointing this out.

  • All links/requests now go specifically through https://imperialconflict.com/ and no other variants.

    • A side effect of this change is the resolution of that annoying "bad link" forum bug.  If you couldn't get into your family forum before, chances are you can now.

  • Galaxy overviews are now visible on the home page.  This includes start/end date info, which should elimate some confusion we experienced recently regarding round ending.

Fixes
  • A long standing and quite obscure bug involving translations on the science page has been fixed.  Thank you Sol Invictus for helping with this.

  • Clicking the forum nav link no longer sometimes downloads the forum index.

  • Forum profile details, specifically tag points, title, last_visit, and post_count information has been fixed.  Thank you Lee for reporting this.

  • An issue with planet page checkboxes disappearing on mobile has been fixed.  Thank you LiGhTGuNs and others for reporting/testing this.

  • A security issue regarding invalid logins has been fixed.

Coming up next

We have a lot of things coming up, but right now the #1 priority is a new site layout that focuses on mobile usability while still providing a proper desktop experience.

If you've read this far, you're a champ!  Thanks for taking the time and as always, feedback is welcome.
