Re: The rules make a game

Lots to catch up on here. yikes

To address Lone Tiger's initial point: there are in fact official rules.  They're linked to from the main page.

Granted, they are messy and confusing and need to be updated.  However, they are there and the only rule mentioned about game play (not account related issues) is regarding Illegal Alliances.

This means: anything that is not an Illegal Alliance is allowed, including farming.

Whether or not farming is encouraged/discouraged is up to the players.  The same goes for other aspects of the game like demanding planets for NAPs, betraying allies, intra-fam disputes, etc.

Not everything in the game needs to be spelled out, or should be.  What is considered fair/honorable/decent/etc is a matter of personal judgment and we will never attain 100% consensus on that.  You're even free to intentionally play the game as a "bad guy" with no honor if you'd like so long as you don't break actual rules.

No IA = no rule breaking.  If you guys have personal disputes, that's fine so long as you don't break game/message/forum/chat rules while you're dealing with it.

For what it's worth, we are taking a close look at all of the rules here and will be providing a newer and more clear version soon.

Re: The rules make a game

IA rule is kinda outdated also, so fwew players left, the discussions to organise IA are being held outside the game.
When 2 people war 1 person, what started same tick. mods can investigate what they want but they wil never find annything. No proof == no punishment.

So how wil you enforce IA?. cuz now only the dumb people get caught.

Colorado: even in the 11/01 war i made more hits.
Colorado: 447 blow jobs.
Big Gary:  Only a fool cannot admit when he's wrong...
AW:    i love rim jobs
RisingDown: I know you do

Re: The rules make a game

Honestly I strongly dislike IA as a rule even when we had many players.  I am not saying that we will do away with it, but it will be something that I am thinking about in the coming months.  You're exactly right about external communication.  The fact that players feel compelled to do this reflects a failure and imbalance on the game itself.

If people have to cheat to have fun, it's worth trying to understand why.

For now though, that rule will stand as is until we have time to consider/discuss IA adequately.

Absolutely agree! Especially with the part where you mentioned honour etc is personal judgement, and everyone plays the game he/she likes to.

Looking forward what you come up with in terms of rules smile

Re: The rules make a game

I think in any game you should enforce the rules,  more specific for a computer game rules should be encoded in the program itself.

Everything that is possible to do without breaking that rules, should be accepted (so if games allow you to go 2 to 1 then there should be no IA rule).

If player base wants honour they could play in such way. If some people want to be 'evil', a 'good' player might come after him.

Just my humble opinion, but the more rules the less gameplay and choices remain.

In a game there is always people who win and loose. The more active ,talentend and experienced you are the more chance to win. Another factor is luck, placement on the map and opponents.  Considering that as long as there are people that loose (not everyone does that) you will have people complaining there should be rules to protect them from being attacked, farmed and whatever they might think that have caused their loss.

Back tot he beginning, if there is a set of rules.  We, the players, agree on that set off rules at the begin of a round of gameplay.  We chould cope with it during that round and have the most fun in playing that game.

Re: The rules make a game

The rules in the game are already there.  Morale rules.  If you don't feel like losing 30 morale for each attack, then nap and move on.  People aren't going to quit because you farmed them cause only the dedicated players are left =p.  If farming small fams really becomes a problem, maybe they'll update the game again.

Re: The rules make a game

There was a time that people had a decent grow up , gaining values from parents and such , facing this keeps decaying in society more rules need to be written I guess smile

Re: The rules make a game

No Farming is more of a gentlemen's agreement that isn't official, but is well understood among players. It isn't that you can't do it, it's just not looked favourably upon.

For a simple definition of farming, it is when you attack a family and expect to take a ton of planets without much resistance, because you eclipse them in size and resources.

From my standpoint, it is a natural part of the game. I think it is good where it is.

No farming is more a FU agreement, and the simple definition is : we will do what we want, when we want, and too Fn bad for you.
Farming has nothing to do with a gentleman's agreement, in any way shape or form
There are not two leaders getting together and one saying, yea you can farm us for 100-200-300 planets with no worrie. But only those 100-200-300 planets.  And the other leader saying. Yea ok. Only those ones
Give me a break. Really

yeah, yeah, yeah, your the best in the game!
But have you played against " Chuck Norris ! "

Thanks for the reply. I have been on both end, farming, and being farmed. I agree that there is no set amount of planets that you can lose, you are basically at the mercy of the enemy. However, I agree with you that there is inbuilt stop time for farming. However, that is just an inherent part of the game, where bigger fams will go after smaller fams. It is conflict not IC farmville smile. I think things should be done to stop extreme abuse, at the same time there are things ingame that allow smaller fams to be more adaptable.

What would you like to see?

apparently you missed the memo where IAs are allowed...

Re: The rules make a game

on the real topic at hand here...

whether or not there is a rule wouldnt stop people from breaking it - only enable the moderators a way to legitimately ban/kick someone for doing what the "rule" says you cant do...

there is no rule in basketball that you cant piss yourself and make the floor slippery causing your opponent to slip and fall but i guarantee that wouldnt be allowed to do it a second time...

farming is allowed (from what i see)- so there is no rule - or rather that is the rule, that it is allowed - its really that simple... if it wasnt allowed, there would be a rule saying its not allowed... i mean how confusing can it really get for new people (hey can they do this? yes they can - because they are doing it and not getting kicked - so question answered all by itself)

youre making the biggest deal out of non-players not knowing what the rules are when you clearly dont have a problem playing yourself - seems more like youre whining because you got the short end of the stick with farming... if you were farming the new players, im sure you wouldve enjoyed it rather than complained from lack of opponents to farm

ill end with this... we all live in society and perform daily functions with little to no knowledge of the majority of laws around us... but you still have to face a penalty for breaking them - ideally everyone gets a warning the first time they break a rule they havent broken before (or should) thats how you know what the rules are - or they get posted per round - such as IAs allowed

-sorry to be long winded

first... thats great and all - i can read them too - except those were written BEFORE the round started... and have not changed sinece the start of round... so im pretty sure the mods have 100% accountability on that one... and the fact that its posted as the forum announcement makes it really hard to overlook

second...

none of the first stuff was directed at you... cjay and ltiger seem like they are complaining because they were unable to take advantage of a specific tactic within the game...

Re: The rules make a game

I made no complaint, all I did was state my own opinion on what I see farming as in this game
I made no complaint, all I did was state that there is no way at anytime that two leaders got together and discussed any farming of one ☝️ or the others family! ( I could be called on that one, for we do, and did have some scumbags who play or played the game )

Hell if you think this is me complaining, you are a noob to the game
