Topic: Brexit is a fact

Despite the huge activity lately on IC's politics forum I see no topic about the brexit yet. Maybe I've overlooked it.

On a more serious note, I think they are stupid to vote leave. Lets look to Norway for an example:
To be able to trade with the EU, the EU poses a few conditions:
- Pay almost 1 Billion euro's each year for the EU in taxes
- Accept almost every law a EU country must accept
- Accept (economic) immigration.

Yet these are the arguments are pro-brexit campaigners used to convince the misguided English to leave.

For those unaware, they had a special deal with the EU on immigration and on the taxes they had to pay for the EU so both where in their favor. They will loose that. They will also loose their say in europe and have to fear the UK falling appart as Northern Ireland and Scotland want to stay in the EU and will demand a vote on them leaving UK as well.

Re: Brexit is a fact

I'd gloat but I think the USA is headed in the same direction so we won't be able to exploit a fractured Europe.  I think we live in a postwar world where preparing for the next world war is easy --- you won't fight it.  So since you don't need to fight a world war, what do you need massive states for?  Why accept the problems of people you will never meet who keep voting up the wrong ideas?  Solidarity? For the sake of solidarity?  There is too much hgh-handedness and elitism in the world and we aren't Chinese.  Even the Chinese had to be shoved into the wonderful system they have today.

Re: Brexit is a fact

Anybody in Britain think Cameron will hold out until October?

Must be nice to lose and then set up a timeline of when you have to go.

@yell:
"I'd gloat but I think the USA is headed in the same direction so we won't be able to exploit a fractured Europe"
I might be naive, but I think US and EU need one another. We share far more humanistic values as we like to admit. Together we can at least show the world there's an alternative for the totalitarian repression we see in eg Russia or China. People still want to live in the western world if they are left a choice.

Despite our differences, I think we should be allies rather then adversaries.

Re: Brexit is a fact

USA is not about to show the world anything.  Democrats have long been without honor or courage.  Now the bulk of the Republican party denounces honoring our agreements as "globalism" and "neocon" trash.

Re: Brexit is a fact

I really hope this opens the eyes of many many people who believe that "protest voting" is a good thing.
Leave Campaign had been very very populistic and now its allready pretty clear, that all the promisses they made wont come true.

As it looks at the moment, the UK scored a classical "own goal"

It also opened my eyes though. I had allways been supporting more direct democracy, but now i understand, that its only possible up to a certain degree since unfortunatlly many many people simply believe what politicans tell them instead of being a little less lazy and making their own thoughts.

The good thing is, that now finally some EU reforms may happen. The irony is, that it may be those reforms the UK allways wanted.. Now we will do them without them smile

Still we should be generous and offer the UK to become a member again once reforms were made.

Re: Brexit is a fact

I was and still am for Brexit. What worries me is the closed mind racial crap clearly coming through/ Also when they had the chance to campaign telling us the possiblilties all they did was scare monger and that wasnt just the leave group.

They leave campaign used the good old sticking up the proverbial two fingers to the establishment strangely promoted by an etonian the quint essential description of the establishment.

Immediately after the vote (which I would honour either way) instead of pulling the whole country together and agreeing it would be wise to pull lots of minds together to get the best aggreements possible for the country the whole government disintegrated in to a power struggle. So conservative or labour, we dont matter worth a shi t as long as they can manufacture their next more prominent position.

Socialism failed about 20 years ago. It took longer but capitalism is now showing similar situations now with so many saying FU to those who get wealthier at our detriment. Its only a matter of time befor Capitalism goes tits up, we have another world war before we finally decide being a good human is infact the best approach. "treat those around you how you wish to be treated yourself"

Due to a virulent strain of moronic mods, your population are worried they will spawn some of their own therefore they have resorted to wearing mod-idoms. Pop growth is reduced by half.

This is exactly what happened to me here.

Isn't this perhaps, a very tiny little bit off topic?

6.2
In the year five hundred eighty more or less,
One will await a very strange century:
In the year seven hundred and three the heavens witness thereof,
That several kingdoms one to five will make a change.

6.20
The feigned union will be of short duration,
Some changed most reformed:
In the vessels people will be in suffering,
Then Rome will have a new Leopard.

-----------------------------------------------
One to Five, refers too Great Britain in my eyes,
You've got England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland and N-Ireland.
Seeing England voted to make a change aka reforming,
due to the setup of the United Kingdom of GreatBritain
Without changing/reforming themselves (depending on what will happen) when England leaves,
the 4 other kingdoms, will change/reform themselves whatever changes they decide to make on their own merits.

Lets see if the 'virgin' will get a new Leo!...actually...current pope is the 112th I believe...that St. Malachy prophecies? Peter The Roman? smile

Ok, bye! smile

I'm back! Actually I never really leave! tongue

http://www.crystalinks.com/merlin.html

Three generations will witness all that I have mentioned, and then the kings buried in the town of London will be disinterred. Famine will return, and death, and citizens will grieve for their townships. The Boar of Commerce shall come and call back the scattered flocks to the feeding ground which they have forsaken. Its breast will be as food to the hungry, and its tongue will assuage the thirst of those who are dry. From its mouth shall flow forth rivers which will water the parched gullets of men.

Then a Tree shall spring up on the top of the Tower of London. It will be content with only three branches, and yet it will overshadow the whole length and breadth of the island with the spread of its leaves. The North Wind will come as the Tree's enemy, and with its noxious breath it will tear away the third of the branches.

The two branches which are left will occupy the place of the one ripped off: this until one of them destroys the other by the very abundance of its leaves. This last branch will fill the place of the other two, and it will offer a roosting place to birds come from foreign parts. To birds native to the country it will seem harmful, for through their dread of its shadow they will lose their power of free flight. The Ass of Wickedness will come next, swift against the goldsmiths, but slow against the wolves' ravenous appetites. In these days the oaks shall burn in the forest glades, and acorns shall burgeon on the lime trees' boughs.

[Do with it as you please]

6.23
Coins depreciated by the spirit of the realm,
And people will be stirred up against their King:
New peace made, holy laws become worse,
Paris was never in so severe an array.

6.27
Within the Isles of five rivers to one,
Through the expansion of the great Chyren Selin:
Through the drizzles in the air the fury of one,
Six escaped, hidden bundles of flax.

6.42
To Ogmios will be left the realm
Of the great Selin, who will in fact do more:
Throughout Italy will he extend his banner,
He will be ruled by a prudent deformed one.

6.70
Chief of the world will the great Chyren be,
Plus Ultra behind, loved, feared, dreaded:
His fame and praise will go beyond the heavens,
And with the sole title of Victor will he be quite satisfied.

7.20
Ambassadors of the Tuscan language
will cross the Alps and the sea in April and May.
The man of the calf will deliver an oration,
not coming to wipe out the French way of life.

8.20
The false message about the rigged election
to run through the city stopping the broken pact;
voices bought, chapel stained with blood,
the empire contracted to another one.

8.28
The copies of gold and silver inflated,
which after the theft were thrown into the lake,
at the discovery that all is exhausted and dissipated by the debt.
All scrips and bonds will be wiped out.

9.55
The horrible war which is being prepared in the West,
The following year will come the pestilence
So very horrible that young, old, nor beast,
Blood, fire Mercury, Mars, Jupiter in France.

9.83
Sun twentieth of Taurus the earth will tremble very mightily,
It will ruin the great theater filled:
To darken and trouble air, sky and land,
Then the infidel will call upon God and saints.

9.89
For seven years fortune will favor Philip,
He will beat down again the exertions of the Arabs:
Then at his noon perplexing contrary affair,
Young Ogmios will destroy his stronghold.

10.12
Elected Pope, as elected he will be mocked,
Suddenly unexpectedly moved prompt and timid:
Through too much goodness and kindness provoked to die,
Fear extinguished guides the night of his death.

10.59 Within Lyons twenty-five of one mind,
Five citizens, Germans, Bressans, Latins:
Under a noble one they will lead a long train,
And discovered by barks of mastiffs.

10.62
Near "Sorbia" to assail Hungary,
The herald of "Brudes" will come to warn them:
Byzantine chief, Salona of Slavonia,
He will come to convert them to the law of the Arabs.

10.95
To the Spains will come a very powerful King,
By land and sea subjugating the South:
This evil will cause, lowering again the crescent,
Clipping the wings of those of Friday.

10.96
The Religion of the name of the seas will win out
Against the sect of the son of Adaluncatif:
The stubborn, lamented sect will be afraid
Of the two wounded by A and A.
