Diplomacy (if you can get enough people)
Chess?

and about 30 years ago I had a weird game with DC superheros and villains, and the game map was the roof of a skyscraper, and the whole point was to get the other team in between you and the edge, and then shove them off the roof to their deaths.

Stratego!

Modestus Experitus

Arby: A very strict mod, reminds me of a fat redneck who drives a truck around all day with a beer in one hand. I hated this guy at the start, however, I played a round in PW with him where he went as an anonymous player. Our fam got smashed up and everyone pretty much left. Arby stayed around and helped out the remaining family. At the end of the round he revealed himself.... My views on him have changed since. Your a good guy.....

Re: top 5 favourite board games!

hmm I actually put you on to a good one, but you need to find a group to play it

RP game, uses White Wolf system, you take on a character from a ring of reincarnating superhuman mortals in an alternate earth recovering from a series of magical and demonic catastrophes

I liked stratego but once you break any part of those plastic pieces its over

Re: top 5 favourite board games!

Never heard of it, but i'd much prefer my D&D 3.5 over exalted sorry tongue

@The Yell, you should play Catan, it's the game I've played the longest but always fun!

Re: top 5 favourite board games!

well apparently Exalted 3rd edition will have deathknights summoning succubi as an attack, so, there goes that game

Re: top 5 favourite board games!

Really? Because some posers were ranting about "ghost rape!"

It looks like 3rd will suck.  It removed the "social combat" system.  It denies you the ability to recover Willpower quickly, which will make mental attacks SICK.
But also, you know Exalted didn't use the old Evil Neutral Good / Lawful Neutral Chaotic grid, but it might as well have.
Solar Exalted want to restore the Golden Age (LG).
Terrestrial Exalted serve the brutal Empress (LE).
Celestial Exalted kept the balance (LN)
Lunar Exalted bring reform by avoiding all the old mistakes (CG).
Abyssals seek revenge and power by making the Underworld triumphant (NE).
Fairie Rakasha want to remake reality more fun (CN).

Now they're introducing the Infernal Exalted, champions of the Demonic Powers.  You can see what's left.

But then again if you can bitch about how the new version is a waste of time, you've legitimated the whole game system as a top tier RPG tongue

... seriously, someone needs to get AA back and set up those games on IRC again.  tongue

But anyway, another fun one that hasn't been mentioned: Axis and Allies.  Consider it like Risk, only if Risk was more complicated and historically accurate to a particular timeframe (in this case, WW2).

It is the Unwritten Law of the Universe that nobody over 25 shall ever participate in regular gaming sessions again

Until maybe 2040 when people start gaming at nursing homes

1. catan
2. heroquest - RPG
3. king of tokyo - doesn't take to long, easy to play, but lots of fun
4. Puerto Rico
5. Megblast - basicly it's a card game but hey, it's fun and has IC context = p

Re: top 5 favourite board games!

Actually 2040 may be a cool era, college kids going to nursing homes to roleplay

FOGEY: You can't carry that.
PUNK1:  It's in the new edition.
PUNK2:  Yeah last year. It's now an option.
FOGEY: Humph. OK then.  Roll Perception.
PUNK1: Oh right, it's your level 24 Rogue/Bard/Cleric from the Clinton Administration, come to steal my gear?
FOGEY: No.
PUNK1:  No?
FOGEY: No. You had to roll better than that, to know what just knocked you unconscious.
