Topic: Rusia to invade Ukraine

Ukraine officially accuses Russia of invading with armed forces. Wonder if the west dare take action now.

Re: Rusia to invade Ukraine

yes well, they chose their 'premium lands' and now they will try to make it a puppet state.

Re: Rusia to invade Ukraine

That would be stupid
Ukraine has like 3000 tanks and  as many APCs

Re: Rusia to invade Ukraine

The smart choice would be to offer NATO status to Ukraine starting in 17 days.

Putin would poo his pants.

of course they do. "no ally of ours" is a critical method to help them avoid any ugliness of protecting others from bullies.

Re: Rusia to invade Ukraine

i am totally undecided on this.. the fact that like 60% of the krims population are russians makes it kinda difficult i think.
The Ukrain just decided they want to go a new way.. its totally fine but imho they also have to accept that there are parts of the ukrain which do not want to go that way.
60% of the Krims population are russians, only 20% are ukrainians.
If its the desire of the people of the krim to join russia, the ukrain should have the balls to let them go, everything else is just "who got the bigger balls" game and the ukrain will loose it in the end.
Its really not the wests business. Why should we take any action? I dont want the west to take actions..

The "west" has allready proven it is not capable of solving the ukrains problems.

Re: Rusia to invade Ukraine

and actually after reading my post.. remove the "i am totally undecided" part.. since i seem to be pretty much decided.

lol

@esa:
"That would be stupid. Ukraine has like 3000 tanks and  as many APCs"
But part of the commanders and drivers speak only Russian. big_smile

@einstein:
"The smart choice would be to offer NATO status to Ukraine starting in 17 days. Putin would poo his pants."
I agree. Unfortunately NATO acts very poorly atm offering warnings nobody takes serious. sad Its almost as ridiculous as the phone call from the president. If we let any democratic nation down, why shouldn't the Sovie er..Russians invade? Its the medieval way.

@schniepel:
A sollution can be found for the bases Krim. But you can't let down entire Ukraine and that is what they are going to take if we let them. That is a disaster for every citizen there, including the Russians, except a handful of oligarchs maybe if they stay friends to the kremlin.

Re: Rusia to invade Ukraine

Wait, wait, wait...

Did Obama open the door for peaceful revolution in the United States? Uncontested Arrival would allow us to seize about 75% of the nation before anyone could even wake up.... rather uncontested indeed!

Re: Rusia to invade Ukraine

except schniepel that would basically be saying "OK Ukraine you can be Chernobyl and everything downstream of Chernobyl and that part gets the debts, we get all these people and their juicy natural resources.  FOAD poverty-stricken bastards"

Re: Rusia to invade Ukraine

Obama is playing RISK and got a "Conquer the Ukraine" card

The inmates are running the asylum

Re: Rusia to invade Ukraine

Its more like Putin drew that card and isn't smart enough to conquer other territories first.

Re: Rusia to invade Ukraine

I have been called insane for saying Putin could be beaten, everybody else online in America is saying OMG WAR WITH RUSSIA like we didn't plan for it for fifty years

But now we see the invincible Russian war machine demand that Ukrainian soldiers surrender or face TEH STORM

and these troops, cut off, isolated, their officers largely defected, looked within themselves and found the true spirit of the soldier

they are sitting on their asses smoking, doing nothing and not obeying orders

and making Russia look stupid.  I look for that admiral to be transferred to Irkutsk which is an inland city

Re: Rusia to invade Ukraine

lol

Re: Rusia to invade Ukraine

yes lol
and please dont get me wrong. I am not a suporter of putin in any way. actually dislike this guy more and more. But what i do have a problem with is:

-totally one sided media coverage in the west. I can only say it for germany but here the media tries to tell us that everyone in the ukrain wants a western course set. They say the ukrainians are happy that janukovic is gone (while janukovic was elected by a majority of people)
Also there was a lot of media coverage about maidan protest but you barely see pro janukovic demonstrations which in fact do happen in eastern ukrain.

-foreign ministers of france poland and germany working out a deal with janukovic, clearing the way for early elections in may. One day later janukovic is sent to hell and no one here looses a negative word about it. I mean.. Janukovic was a democratically elected president but who cares.

-almost unconditional support for this in no way legitimated goverment of which most people had allready prooven that they are not able to run the country. I mean.. one of the first things they did was banning russian as 2nd official language and then being surprised that there are people rioting about it. Sorry, but if they screw it up this way i dont want to support them against russia or pro russian partisans.

In my oppinion there is only one sollution. Let the people in the Ukraine vote. If the eastern part wants to live close to russia, let them. If the western part wants to move closer to the EU.. let them. In the worst case split the country. Two more or less happy countries are better then one country being deeply divided inside. We should not play the "who´s got the bigger balls" game because if we play it for fun, putin will win. If we play it seriously.. everyone will loose.

Re: Rusia to invade Ukraine

"yes lol"
I wouldn't know what to answer if you said "no lol".

"but you barely see pro janukovic demonstrations which in fact do happen in eastern ukrain."
But they are on a lesser scale. Which is logical as he is in power.

"Janukovic was a democratically elected president but who cares."
He did away with democracy so he lost his legitimacy.

"Two more or less happy countries are better then one country being deeply divided inside."
Its not that easy. The eastern part holds the majority of the industry. Next to that it would annexed to an autocratic medieval and murderous regime. They do have prison camps like in the Stalin era, only less productive. I'm sure they'll get better in it over the years.

Re: Rusia to invade Ukraine

How could Putin become more popular with western audiences?
Would it help if he learned to play saxophone or  paint his face black?
Nominate queers and lesbians finto his government?

Re: Rusia to invade Ukraine

"But they are on a lesser scale. Which is logical as he is in power."
he is not in power anymore, and it seems that many many govermental buildings in charkov or donezk are occupied by pro russian protestors. They may be on a smaller scale then the maidan protest but also they are just not really present in our  media.

"He did away with democracy so he lost his legitimacy."
At what point did he loose it? When he worked out the association contract with the EU he was totally fine for our politicians. Did he loose his legitimacy when he decided he´d go for russia instead? Or when "his snipers" shot at people on the maidan?`There is some intresting new info about that though:

http://vineyardsaker.blogspot.de/2014/0 … onian.html

this would not surprise me if i am honest.

"Its not that easy. The eastern part holds the majority of the industry. Next to that it would annexed to an autocratic medieval and murderous regime. They do have prison camps like in the Stalin era, only less productive. I'm sure they'll get better in it over the years."
Yeah i know that. But that is something the new goverment should have considered before they banned the native language of the majority of people living there. And russia for sure is not the ideal state i would want to live in. But if the people in the eastern ukrain want to be tied to russia it is their decision. Its not to the west to tell them that they dont want it.

Re: Rusia to invade Ukraine

"he is not in power anymore, and it seems that many many govermental buildings in charkov or donezk are occupied by pro russian protestors. They may be on a smaller scale then the maidan protest but also they are just not really present in our  media. "
I don't know about Germany, but they are present in ours. Timetable corresponds to the scale or exceeds it.

"At what point did he loose it?"
He lost it long ago when he decided to strip the parliament of his powers and give it to himself. Only now, with the new gov the power of parliament is somewhat restored. I'm not lying. You can look it up. He had almost total power. He could rule by decree like Putin. Next to that he never had a majority of votes, and he was never voted to become dictator.

"But if the people in the eastern ukrain want to be tied to russia it is their decision. Its not to the west to tell them that they dont want it."
Large bits of the population are fooled by nationalist/anti western propaganda for almost a century what do you expect? I don't care if they go anti-EU as long as they remain a democratic state.

I think we should take a tougher stand on stal... er putin and FORCE him to become more democratic. We should have forced them into letting media be free when we had the upper hand after USSR broke up. We owe it to those people even if they don't realize it themselves because they are presented a blurred vision upon the world. When people where starving in USSR during Stalin many thought they were still better off.

Give Putin the krim if we have to but save the people of Ukraine and offer them a future.
