Hmmm....from all the info on the internet that could be found, since an exact study hasn't really been made, the cricket ball is comparitively heavier than a baseball, although by the time it reaches the batter, the baseball has faster momentum than the cricketball.

Baseballs have been known to break 100mph speed, while the cricket ball could achieve near that speed, but rarely breaks it.

Damage to the human body is derived from the speed and weight of the object in which this case, both can do significant damage.  And in most cases where I seen the pictures of damage caused by both balls, they're pretty much equal in the damage catagory.  Everything from broken hands, splintered tibia, smashed knee caps, broken noses, dislocated eyes (nasty),  broken or fractured jaws, busted teeth, cracking the cranial cavity, ruptured spleens and kidneys, cracked ribs, spinal injury (at least several cases of permanant paralysis)....

The baseball and cricketball are supposed to be used in sports, but more often than not, they are used as "teaching tools", which amount to nothing more than being used as a weapon to strike an opponant.  Usually used by pitchers to teach humility to the batter.  Batter's do not take kindly to this form of "teaching".  Nor does the team.  Nor do the fans.

haha I remember when Don Drysdale was alive and switching innings with Vin Scully, doing commentary on Dodger games

and no matter what team threw the beanball, Drysdale would be justifying it for an hour

Re: Anglophone World Unites In Sorrow As Piers Morgan Battered

"He was crowding the plate!"...This excuse is used by the pitcher in order to force the batter to not stand so close to the plate.  Early in the game, pitchers have a lot of self control of where they want the ball to go.  Unfortunately as time progresses, the pitcher grows tired, arm muscles start to respond to the constant repetitive muscle motion, and "slippage" of the ball starts to occur.  The ability to use a Curve ball, requires more room than a batter will allow for.

First "slippage" can be usually explained as an accident.  The second offense can be also, as long as it doesn't hit the same person.  Three slippages will lead to physical altercation of two teams, because everyone knows three strikes and your out.

Re: Anglophone World Unites In Sorrow As Piers Morgan Battered

The ball is delivered differently, had cricket started off with the bowler being a thrower (as in baseball), I think they'd be bowling a hell of a lot faster... most probably changing the game (of cricket) completely. How many times in a game is a Baseball player actually targeted by the ball or at risk of being hit by the ball? I don't believe that it would be as great a risk as being hit by the ball in cricket, trying to hit the batter in the head (or anywhere on the body) while bowling in cricket is legit and doesn't lead to an all in fag fest of jersey pulling and wrastlin all over the ground in a heap lol. smile

Re: Anglophone World Unites In Sorrow As Piers Morgan Battered

Yah, the baseball is used more uses of the arm, which is bent.  The cricket ball is thrown overhand, straight armed, and in some instances that i've seen softballs are done in the same fashion.

Baseball uses the joint at the arm, elbow, and wrist.

The cricketball usually just uses the arm joint, with some bowlers using the wrist.  This leads to a loss of some of that speed we were talking about earlier.

However, still the use of the ball as a weapon, to teach someone a lesson is piss poor sportsmanship.
