Topic: The World Deserves a Vote

Since there are some nations which are so powerful and in our globalized world their actions affect populations around the world in other countries, large powerful countries like the US and China should have global elections for their countries' candidates.  Of course, these might not be binding, but could provide insight to nations' voters about how the rest of the world would vote.  These 'for information purposes only' global elections should be held the day prior to the day that large, powerful countries hold their elections.

Again, the premise is that since we live in a globalized world where large and powerful countries affect populations on a global level, the world population's deserves a say and deserves to be heard with regards to the election candidates of large, powerful countries.

Does that mean you'd start paying US income tax regardless of citizenship?  big_smile

Also, you are aware China doesn't even have binding elections for its own national officials, yes?  Are you saying we should uproot the Chinese government completely, or are you saying foreign nations should get more voice in China's government than their own people?

In a sense, people around the world already do pay a sort of tax to the US in the form of the depreciation of their currency due to the 'quantitative easing' measures taken by US Federal reserve.

Re: The World Deserves a Vote

population is divided unequally geographically speaking. Imagine the power eg china and india would have over the world.

So do Americans, via inflation.  Now, are you going to pay equal taxes to Americans?  big_smile

Re: The World Deserves a Vote

Hey...this could be a great idea Xeno.  If America could enforce a 30% income tax on everyone voting citizen of the world not only would the world be acknowledging that America as the world's governing body, but our debt would very quickly become manageable!

"Tribute to America"

I like it!

The core joke of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that of course no civilization would develop personal computers with instant remote database recovery, and then waste this technology to find good drinks.
Steve Jobs has ruined this joke.

Re: The World Deserves a Vote

We have the United Nations for "Global voting".

Re: The World Deserves a Vote

not all countries at UN are democracies

Re: The World Deserves a Vote

That's the power of government.  Each nation is allowed a vote.  And that's democracy on a global scale, even though the country itself maybe a dictatorship.

A vote = democratically elected leadership.  Which is ok, because there are quite a few nations still on this planet that are not member states of the United Nation.

Re: The World Deserves a Vote

Holy crap.  Lemme rephrase xeno's statement to prevent THAT can of worms from being opened:

Not all countries in the UN attempt to illicit the consideration of their population in some form as a method of determining either policy or the individuals who decide policy.
