Topic: The Obamacare meltdowm

Well 34 exchanges were messed up at launch. Millions visited only to find they could not register or browse.

More so a major sticker shock has happened as people found their costs doubled or even tripled for insurance. On addition to the sticker shock most found their net benefits had dropped.

The disaster has some Republicans thinking this could lead to a backlash against all things socialism. He had tons of time and literally a trillion dollars and it still wont work. Nice catch line huh?

Everything bad in the economy is now Obama's fault. Every job lost, all the debt, all the lost retirement funds. All Obama. Are you happy now? We all get to blame Obama!

Re: The Obamacare meltdowm

Just want to note that part of the problem behind website crashes was due to the sites having more traffic than they anticipated initially.  How many privately run video games have had that same problem on startup day?  big_smile

Did I mention they have a trillion dollars, the NSA, whole departments of tech guys in various agencies and 4 years to plan?

Re: The Obamacare meltdowm

Wait, are you saying we need to EXPAND use of the NSA toward everyday government activities?

Also, remember, it's 50 state governments that set up the exchanges, not the federal government.  So "they" don't have a damn thing.  big_smile

Re: The Obamacare meltdowm

Au contrare. the federal government was forced to make most of the exchanges after states took the "we wont make it" route.

And most states, excepting maybe rhode island, have it departments and dozens of websites they manage already. rhode island being so small i think they just shout questions at eachother....

I like how MSNBC tried to enroll and failed...

WAIT!  WAIT!  WAIT!!!!!  Nuh uh, you don't get to pull that!

So the federal government sets up a program.  States throw monkey wrenches into the program by refusing to create the exchanges in question... and you blame the program's supporters?  If Democrats significantly cut Iraq War funding dead in the middle of the war, would it prove the war was a bad idea because it couldn't cope with the defunding?

At the very least, all that shows is that you have to give the federal government a bit of slack on at least the initial days of the site program.  I mean, remember, this is day 1 of a website.  Does anyone remember the day 1 for the latest Sim City game?  Does the fact that day 1 utterly sucked mean the program will suck 3 months in?  And don't even get me started on most MMO day 1 releases.

We just don't even hold private companies to that same standard.  I mean, come on, we're debating this on www.imperialconflict.comsmile

Re: The Obamacare meltdowm

Convenient of you to drop the 1st argument.  smile

But anyway whether or not any particular examples of companies did have functional day 1 starts, it's irrelevant to the argument.  I'm not saying day 1 failure is standard in companies.  All I'm saying is that the day 1 performance... the performance of the programs when they first start up... when the program goes from development to open beta... is not indicative of long term performance.

So about 50% of the funding and hours of a high end game...

Wait, people play Simcity? I don't know if that is the best example to give of "sucked day 1, excellent day 90"

Re: The Obamacare meltdowm

Diablo, WoW, LeagueOfLegends, DOTA, LOTRO, Grand Theft Auto Online are some of the most popular web based services on the net....and regularly have connectivity problems on new releases.... hell GTA 5 has been out 2 weeks now (online play just started yesterday) and the social club website that is supposed to be tied into the game is still down or so slow it might as well be down regularly.

Re: The Obamacare meltdowm

Yes you should X(

But yea, I plan on not even trying GTA online for a few more days....because people who know how these things work realize that it is incredibly difficult to accurately predict how much action you'll be hit with upon a new release, and in most cases (kudos to finding a site that didn't have the problem flint, but if you expect that to be the norm you're delusional) it takes a bit to work out the kinks.

The Dems wanted someone to show off having Obamacare. They chose the first they could get.. since it seems almost no one has successfully signed up they picked an Activist of their side and tried to hide his activism! lol, caught

Re: The Obamacare meltdowm

Obamacare is a civil rights violation.

Obamacare orders everybody to get the federal minimum insurance plan.  It is unisex, so men have to pay for neonatal coverage and women have to pay for prostate cancer coverage. (1/3rd of men get prostate cancer, so that's a fat charge).  You then have to swear under penalty of perjury on your tax return, whether you have it or not.  If you don't, you have a penalty set against you.

Illegal aliens are exempt but not US citizens.  This is a violation of the 14th Amendment guarantee of equal protection.

You can claim a religious exemption, but only if your religion ALSO objects to all insurance AND Social Security payments.  This is a violation of the 1st Amendment ban on government restriction of the free exercise of religion. The federal government is forbidden to create "qualifiers" for rating religions as "real" based on their reaction to government.

It punishes people administratively without hearing.  This is a violation of the 4th Amendment guarantee of due process.  (It is not assessing a tax based on income - it assigns a penalty for conduct totally unrelated to income - a punitive fine.  Then it says poor people don't have to pay that fine at all.)

It requires people to testify about their own conduct, under oath, so they can be punished without trial based on their admission.  This is a violation of the 5th Amendment guarantee against self-incrimination.   It  is not assessing a tax based on income.  It is making inquiry about BEHAVIOR, and then assessing a FINE.

None of these objections has been heardby the Supreme court, because nobody has had to do the reporting before this year. You cannot get a preemptive Shh from the Supreme Court.

If Obamacare is upheld, then we can get rid of the whole Penal code and the federal court system.  We'll just make the tax return 5000 pages long.

"Worksheet 420:
Have you, within the last 12 months, used cannibis?  If yes, enter $10,000.00 on line 420.
Have you, within the last 12 months, given computer files to Wikileaks?  If yes, enter $10,000.00 on line 421.
Have you, within the last 12 months, used a destructive device on federal property? If yes, enter $100,000 on line 422.
Have you, within the last 12 months, robbed a federally insured bank?  If yes, enter $50,000 on line 423."

Imagine what we'd save on criminal trials! We just save the courts for people who refuse to fill out the blanks on their tax returns.  That's felony tax evasion.  And lying, that's felony perjury.

Everybody else would be ordered to testify to a federal officer whether they were guilty or not, and then he'd punish them right there based on their answers! So simple! Why didn't we think of it before!   Hey, let's have the IRS dress like Judge Dredd.

Now lawfully and constitutionally, they could have just said, everybody has a Obamacare tax, and you can get an exemption if you want, by proving you already have insurance.  But they didn't.  They went out and violated the Bill of Rights and the 14th Amendment.  If you can obey the Bill of Rights and get the job done, then, that's every reason not to allow you to violate the Bill of Rights to get the job done.

The core joke of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that of course no civilization would develop personal computers with instant remote database recovery, and then waste this technology to find good drinks.
Steve Jobs has ruined this joke.

Re: The Obamacare meltdowm

I already checked the logs of Oregon's version...it had a minor crash, due to heavy server traffic.  In basic terms it had a traffic jam on the freeway of the internet at the port entry to the server.  To many people logging at the same time.

Then again it didn't help that some dumbass hackers used a Denial Of Service program in order to shutdown the site in the first place.

They had a couple of years to get this up and running, and of course they're going to need actual trials in the real world to iron out the bugs and glitches.
