how come peeps with less tag points than me have a higher tag? hhhmmmmmmm?

Add the posts bit and the tag points. The posts bit is points from the old forum

when they introduced the new points system i was a solar commander or something for a few days then  lost it! sad

It's a shame a better tag doesn't naturally improve the player.

It is because we have our previous or 'old' tag's before this new system came in.

Dont worry, i asked the same question but in reverse..

The old forum didn't have a tag point system, so the mods used the post count to record tag points.
the new forum has a tag point register (which is where the new tag points are being recorded).
It appears that the player rating is still reading from the post count (old tag point system).
