Topic: Don't need family bank.

Earlier this round Torqez told me I should post this message in Strategy that was posted in our family forum before the round started.  I waited till we won the round again for the second time in a row while using this philosophy and that is now.

"Ok so this will sound kind of odd since I am sure for the past 5-6 years any family people have been in demanded everything to be done exactly how the leader demanded and everything on a set script run by them using a family bank system.  Throw that out the window.

I want everyone to play their own accounts and we'll grow based off of good communication and knowledge of the game as a family.  Family bank is effective in most cases but there are flaws that just make it not fun to run it.

1.  It means that typically you have 1 or 2 people that have to be responsible for everything getting done, planned, and holding bank 24 hours a day.  Easy to burn out this way especially when it's attackers who want to just attack getting stuck with all that extra stress.  It is a game, it should be fun.

2.  You typically end up with people being left out the first week purposely for the plans that are developed and not by ones choice.  Thus causing interest to wain in some.

3.  We are not Sheeple, Let the herds of other players get herded around by their leaders.

This IS how I am hoping things will work out.  I am hoping that we can use the experience that we do have in the family as a whole to be able to manage their own accounts effectively, intelligently, and communicatively.  Instead of me being the one who knows what needs to be done next, I am hoping that as a group we all know the game well enough to know and predict what needs to be done and get it done on our owns.

Communication will be the major need among members of the family.  I want bankers to know when they are supposed to be greedy and have the initiative to get that done.  We don't need to sit around with a bunch of stuff waiting for someone to get on to tell us what to do with it.  Talk to members of the family and tell them what you want to get done and we can get it done.

Bankers: Grow, Increase Income, if you need planets talk to an attacker that has expos or will be able to build them and then be on to expo for you.  Keep growing and using our attackers and resources per your needs.  If you are finding you always have a lot of excess cash, talk to resourcers about arranging a jump for them, FILL YOUR NEEDS.  If market is low, of course we buy low.  IF market is rising where it is more effective to build resources than buy, Get resourcers building.

Resourcers: Prime objective of course is to fill the resource needs for our bankers.  Talk with them, offer expos, if you need anything, talk with them about getting the cash to do it.

Attackers: Of course we kind of take a back seat for a bit to get the bankers and resourcers up and going till it is our time to drain them dry!

I will still try to be around as much as possible and keeping track of what we are doing so that if someone does need guidance, it can be offered but I will not try to run your accounts for you.

Communication, Teamwork, and proactiveness.  Keys to our plan that isn't really a plan!

This did work very well this round but a key point I think you listed is that we had a group of very experienced players who could be counted on to at least login and communicate daily. A famy bank strategy is more effective I think (and from my personal experience over the years) for a larger family with a lot less experience. It ensures that less communicative players or less experienced ones don't get overlooked because they don't know as much what/when to ask for aid or planets, etc.

Overall I did enjoy this round more based on the reduced stress from not having to be around 24/7 to give/hold/give out resources/planets/instructions and made everyone feel less like sheep and more involved with everything. Winning the round obviously helped influence my end feeling too tongue

I've been preaching this for years.  The family bank system was OK when families were 20 players big, now it's not required.  Too many inexperienced/NOOB/idiot leaders still use this system which is not allowing the players to develop into anything better than morons.  And I mean that in the harshest way possible because game play now is at it's worst since IC began.  I could win a round with just 3 players.  That is in fact true. 
We had a guy rejoin us called ttdkrz, he played before but picked up the game probably 5x faster by playing our way as opposed to if he was introduced back into a fam bank system.

Players are so fixated that fam bank is best, and refuse to change,  those players have been brainwashed to the extreme, pkayers [lets just keep this blank, eh? - that way it's a good post!],  dead heads who think a war should last 10 seconds,  believe every nap costs 100 planets and that naps should be given to any family for no reason.  These guys screwed this game[].

Great post well worth a read, never liked the family bank system myself but would say I swap and change between the two easily and rapidly, why disclaim something when the to use both is there

I like the relaxed "play your own account" type play that is spot on

But at times saying "lets save" and xxxx person is the bank can help.

Waiting around for big jumps or in times of war tends to help if the person with the most wizards and agents carries the bank, so the idea does have its uses.

I would say its when and how to deploy them.


In a case of war
To protect resources
To plan a big jump

Sure fam bank is great .

To run an entire round on family bank alone and 1 persons choices is boring, I'd much rather players grew and explored and built without been told.


Things I don't like about the family bank system

- When its not online

- When you send the entire bank to someone and receive 1 gc and 2 food back and they blow the lot

- That awkward moment when you realize you have just sent the entire bank to the wrong person

It comes down to good players / team players


Then you can do either system   and the old mini team system

switching between them at will



But that does stop the fam bank jumping 2-3 people who want to look cool and be number 1 for a tick (generally they die and delete and don't even finish with a rank)

and hear is the key

No matter what system or approach is taken it needs to be a team and when your in a team you get on with you can play any style, lose and still enjoy the game  but you sure have a better chance of winning

less than 10 players = higher chance of family bank going offline

i was hoping to have 13 players per fam, but mods decided on 7 players per fam (until later increased to 8 players)

i dont like smaller families for some reasons:
1) Gaps of activity among players, which is hard to coordinate a plan
2) Less motivation and more lonely/boring because almost no one is on to talk to
3) half of fams getting useless/inactive/unwanted players (for example, 7 active players out of 7 have better chance at being top 5, while 2 active out of 7 have no chance to grow into top 8), creating unbalanced ranking that maybe 5 out of 13 fams can compete for top 3.

anyway, family bank is only best in big family/most active while team strategy worked much better when they depend on timezone.
