Topic: Blackberry fraud?

"Its market value has fallen to $4.8 billion, from $84 billion at its peak in 2008."

Intentional devaluation of the stock so private interests go in and get the company at a bargain, or just your run-of-the-mill, idiots running major companies?

In other words, moral or cognitive bankruptcy, or a little mixture of both?

Think anyone will be going to jail?

Likely not, of course.

Re: Blackberry fraud?

It's not any more criminal than the failure of Eastman Kodak.

RIM decided to avoid the fun smartphone market for almost 6 years.  Blackberry was the business phone, for people who couldn't use cameras, who wanted a physical qwerty, who didn't need videos or games or streaming music.

Thing is, the price difference between buying a Blackberry, and buying the same trendy phone as your friends, and just not using all the non-Blackberry features of that trendy phone, weren't really that much.  So sales sagged.

THEN, they got hacked and nobody got to use their Blackberries for 5 days straight.  I think that happened twice.

So that loses everybody who had a Blackberry and didn't need to pay for daily email.  Then there's everybody who had a Blackberry and prefers a phone that's never been hacked, and Apple is willing to lie about not needing security. Then federal courts that had banned cellphone cameras, just freaking gave up and allow them, so,why bother not getting a Droid?

Re: Blackberry fraud?

Blackberry/RIM was poorly run. They should use WindowsPhone 8 and add BBM apps and corporate services on top.

Re: Blackberry fraud?

All Canadian companies a poorly run.Never buy Canadian shares.
You will also get the hell taxed out of you.

My argument is that it was poorly run by design, like most of the companies out there (Canadian or otherwise), for the purpose of greasing palms of those in control of supply chains, for political purposes, purposes which the vast majority of humanity abhor (or would abhor if they understood them).

Re: Blackberry fraud?

And Warren Buffet, the billionaire investor what invests billions, won't touch tech stocks because he says this sort of crap is inevitable and impossible to predict.

If I were a billionaire investor, I would have no freaking clue what to invest in, because the world is simply too @#%ed up.

Re: Blackberry fraud?

I think he's big on underwriting companies that back insurance companies.

Hmm..  Interesting...since insurance companies get the bail out money, makes sense.

"BlackBerry will have only the late Nortel Networks Corp. outranking it in perpetrating mammoth investor losses. "

And what happened to cause Nortel Networks to lose its value?  Hmmm...?

http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/story/2 … rdict.html

Did the Nortel folks move over to Blackberry, then?

Re: Blackberry fraud?

Xeno you... the reason they failed was due to stupidity, which happens on occassion in big companies.

HP hired a dumb lady as CEO and she tried selling their core business away...

Kodak... well they thought electronic cameras were just a fad

Dell had stockholders who thought cutting costs via buying crappier materials was a smart move.

Apple also nosedived when people saw they were really a one product per a line type company...

Thing is the free market allows us to have competing ideas worth us purchasing. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 I bought is a superior product to many other tablets... I am a consumer able to choose and I did so. The Free Market is always better than a controlled market

Tablet PC's are for when you are in a warehouse and you are waiting for a slow arsed shipper or lumper or such, and you want to not be bored to death. READING FTW!
