Topic: Hyperloop?

Hyperloop?

Naw.  They'll use technology and systems that are inefficient, archaic, polluting, etc., because they own the patents for them and have all those palms to grease through their business connections and supply chains.  They won't use it even if they get it for free, because they are morally and cognitively bankrupt.   That Elon Musk has to give it away for free to the entire world is a shame, a crying shame.  Better would have been for Elon Musk to have sold the patent to oil conglomerates for the hundreds of thousands of trillions of dollars they would have been willing to pay (or rather print) for it, so, of course, they could bury the patent so it could never see the light of day, so they could continue with their oil-based military industrial complex and fiat-based monetary system scheme.

Elon Musk could then have used the hundreds of trillions dollars to build a spacecraft for us rational people to get the $#% away from the malevolent psychopaths who are running things in the world, people who are clearly intent on destroying humanity and all life on this planet.

Re: Hyperloop?

"by allowing this technology to be used freely in public domain, the decision is put to the citizen and the politician as to whether to utilize it."

Right, and now will he see the quadraplexillion of dollars they would have paid him NOT to release it to the public domain?  Nope.  now he doesn't get the money that he could have used to build a spacecraft for us reasonable people to get the @#% away from the crazies running things here.

Now, thanks to Elon Musk, we are all doomed.

Re: Hyperloop?

"your last was equally as funny"

No, the really funny thing is that hyperloop technology is hundreds of years old.

edit:

actually, if you think about it, the above fact is not funny at all, but, rather, incredibly telling - we're so @#%ed.  In fact, I think Hawkings is wrong: the window for our opportunity to successfully expand humanity to the stars is long closed.  The extent by which we've been setback by the social upheavals of the19th, 20th and 21st centuries is such that I don't think humanity's got any chance to survive anymore.

Re: Hyperloop?

I wonder when he will begin his open-source banc account.

Re: Hyperloop?

anchor it at an even depth along the sea floor and run it from SF to Japan and its a winner

The core joke of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that of course no civilization would develop personal computers with instant remote database recovery, and then waste this technology to find good drinks.
Steve Jobs has ruined this joke.

Re: Hyperloop?

OK I read it and he's saying that for distances over 1500 km they should use supersonic aircraft as most efficient.

Shorter than that, you'd take longer to get supersonic and slow down instead of actually flying, so, do something else.

I call it a white elephant.  He's saying it's a winner compared to California's planned "high speed rail".  But doing nothing is better than our planned rail project, which will NOT get closer to SF than 30 miles away.

The problem with his design is, the capsule won't have the power capacity to accelerate itself.  If you're going to have continuous accelerators all along the track, you might as well go mag-lev.  If the capsule has to stop, then it has to be towed out.  The whole line has to be shut down.  That's a problem with ANY fixed track system.

What we should do for $30 billion is boost Ontario Airport which is 50 miles from downtown LA, and upgrade that Alameda Airbase that Mythbusters does crash tests on, into express jet airports.  Then we get 10 Airbus A33-300 which can seat 440 each.  The price is $223 million each, so 10 would be $2 billion (we'd demand 10% cash discount).  Then we buy 90 Sikorsky S-92A helicopter buses that hold 19 passengers each. Those are $17 million each so 90 would be $1.4 billion (cash discount).

The copters would run every 30 mins from malls and train stations (mall will boost the economy) to the shuttle jetports, AND back.  So you can take the bus or train to the chopper, then fly to the jetport, then get on an express jet economy class to the Bay and back down.

1 jet every 30 mins would move 840 people an hour.  45 helicopters would move that many around the metro area.  In fact that idea is so sweet, we can buy another 90 helicopters and people use the jet ports as transport hubs.

Former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger can be the spokesman, and the tagline is RUN!!! GET TO THE CHOPPER!
