Rnd 2 is up...


Stats as follows:
Map size: 120x120
Systems:  1756 (last round 1779)
Families: 200 (last round 300)
Family size: 1
Max allies: 0
Length: 6 Weeks
Attacks and ops: 2 days delay
Market: 2 day delayed-trial (no market last round)
Resources: 20x
Defense Stations: 1
Starting Friday, Aug 2
Ending Monday, Sep 16
Families are reduced to 200, op max is now 10 instead of 7, trialing a market with 2 day delay.

Not sure why we need a market - i thought the rnd went fine last time with no market - seemed to be fighting and jumping and all sorts. I hope there will be some control on the market, otherwise I get the feeling it will be abused big time.

10 ops - not fussed, will make war time a bit more interesting however...

What do they mean with Trial market? Will they be able to close it? Would be much needed to know if I can go pop banking or not.. would be a shame getting 300% ob pop and they close market..

things like this is why there should be no market - but yes they will probably keep an eye out for illegal activities in the market - like market aiding, and if there is too much abuse shut it down.

The problem with the market is that it allows specialisation - in which resource based is the best option, which is what starburst is for...

i cant see them shutting it down from people abusing it, i would think the people abusing it get blocked instead. shutting down the market would not be fair to the other players using it legally.

also this is beta round 2. so they r testing different things out, alot of peopel wanted market, alot didnt, so y not give it a shot and see what happens. should be interesting, definetly changes my plans.

I can guarantee that it will be abused, and there is a good chance that it will be shut down, with a notification period.

Regarding the market and the additional ops, we saw the Feedback and thought we'd try these out smile  It was based on what Players said that played last round.

Again, it's just small variations to keep things mixed up (even if just a little)!

It will not be closed during the round.

This was done because people had overfunded the DS fund, because of a little ambiguity in how many you could build.  You cannot do this any more.

Yea, to be honest, I'm not really sure how it will pan out!

I mean, I guess it's nice to have access to a market, when you're in a pinch.  But over-reliance on it, could seem like something that could lead you to downfall.

Previously, we had people with pure attacker races, trying their hand at SS hardcore, cos they relied on market.  But now, everyone has a balanced race.

So yea...we shall see!

if, as so many previous posts have pointed out, supernova is basically the new training galaxy (and it also appears everyone may be able to use this galaxy to fine-tune theirs skills or play around with different strats etc) then a market isn't a necessary thing and could be detrimental to people trying to learn the mechanics of the game

Thanks for the input MJ smile I think they are trialling a few different formats to see what everyone enjoys as well as having it as a training galaxy (i,e I don't think the sole purpose of it will be to be a training galaxy, though it is that aswell). Then again, I could be well off the mark big_smile

It will be interesting to see how heavily, if at all, the market is used.

Yeh, would definately be interested to see a fixed market, but I think that was done in a previous galaxy and was massively bugged wasn't it?

Yes it was bugged, but as it was discussed previously, if you're going to have a training galaxy, then a fixed market is key. It keeps the market viable in prices while not becoming a cornerstone of the top players income.

Arby: A very strict mod, reminds me of a fat redneck who drives a truck around all day with a beer in one hand. I hated this guy at the start, however, I played a round in PW with him where he went as an anonymous player. Our fam got smashed up and everyone pretty much left. Arby stayed around and helped out the remaining family. At the end of the round he revealed himself.... My views on him have changed since. Your a good guy.....

though having a market still allows players to "specialize".
playing a true SS strat takes a planning and balancing.
with a market you can be a resource/attacker, and sell stuff for cash.
or vis-a-versa.

i dont see the benifits of having a pure cash or ressies race and relying on the market, because there are so many resource bonus planets the way i try to build is by using these planets, i would build endu to max 100% OB (because so expensive) octarine to just full built, iron as high as i can and RCs as high as i can - build cash factories on all other planets.
and its easy enough to get good research in both sections of science too - and fairly easy to get good science in the 4 needed sections.
however at times in the last round i really could have done with selling some of the massively stockpiled endurium to get some cash to help with portals and such when attacking.
so i think if the galaxy uses the market right then it can be a help. but i think anyone planning on solely using the market would be a little silly - especially if there will still be the galactic event of market strikes.....
