"Not given military training with a firearm" doesn't equate to "dumb."  Reading way too much into someone's argument to justify a generalized personal attack against a group of people, though?  That equates!  big_smile

It should also be noted that guns aren't our first choice for self defense.  We don't like to use them.  Unless our enemies choose them.  We prefer to take you on like a man, and beat you down with our hands, and bodyslam you.

This topic is still relevant but the lasts few posts haven't been very constructive. Let's get back on topic again or let this thread die if there are no more valuable inputs on the subject.

Re: Gun Control

guns should be limited to one hand gun per home! plus all rifles should be checked out at hunting lodges.

i really dont see the point of owning or having a gun. Just me, plus i like to rile up those gun lovers ;p

Leap ahead

Re: Gun Control

I like the hunting argument. Does that mean those guys who use semi-automatic rifles to kill children are actually just innocent child hunters?

Plz explain.

Re: Gun Control

I have been a hunter for over 40 years, own 5 guns,  there always locked up in a gun safe, i also believe there should be background checks on all gun sales, Can anyone tell me whats the use for a rifle with a pistol grip, laser sites and flash light attachment-- its not for hunting or target practice

Which of those is the more "dangerous" rifle?
Neither.  They're both .223 semi-auto rifles with different furniture.

What you're talking about is a tactical rifle that people use for self-defense to own people with handguns and shotguns.
That said:

A pistol grip supposedly makes it easier to steady the rifle with one hand and a sling or a corner or fence.

A laser sight is pointless on a two-handed weapon.  You use a laser sight so you don't have to stare down the barrel of a pistol at very close ranges to aim.  If you are not very close, or are using both hands, you can look down the barrel to aim very naturally, in which case you are better served with a 40mm red-dot sight.

Flash light attachments actually make the gun safer! Instead of shooting people you can dazzle them with a tactical flashlight.  Those really hurt at night.  People who are
a) blinded
b) by a flashlight at the end of some guy's gun
tend to give up easier

As for background checks - I think I will never support any more federal gun control.  There are people who want gun confiscation like they have in big cities, which makes crime worse.  These gungrabbers want national gun policy so confiscation can happen faster like in Australia and the UK.  Anything good or reasonable regarding gun control can be done by the states individually, who coincidentally, also regulate the mentally ill and parole of most violent criminals.  If the gun control is a smart idea it will spread without a federal policy, like fire alarms in schools, and photos on driver's licenses, and the Uniform Commercial Code, all of which states took up for themselves.

Re: Gun Control

As much as some people equate Privalages and rights as the same thing, they are in fact not.  Most people don't see the arguement of the right to bear arms, since it has the LARGEST loophole in the United States Constitution.

When they were writing down the right to bear arms, were the founding fathers speaking on behalf of a new government, and the new governments right to produce manpower and equip this new army with weapons, in order to defend a new nation against tyranny....

...or were the founding fathers smoking dope, sitting around the table going, "Dude...lets write it so everyone and their mother can own a gun and call it a right.

Under the Laws of the United States, the Constitution of the United States can be amended.  New amendmants have previously shown light on previous amendmants where the wording was lighter, airy, and full of holes...while newer ammendments were stricter and better written than the original amendment written hundreds of years ago, thereby plugging loopholes.

I believe gun ownership is like car ownership.  It's a privalage, not a right.  The "Gun RIGHT" activists, point to a document written by people that used Queen's English.  It was so...elegant...and so POMPOUS, that I can safely state that most  Pro-Gun activists are just as POMPOUS as the Queen English that our Constitution was written in.

Gun activists point out many times that, "It's our god given right, to bear arms."  Hmmmm...god gave you a right, through a bunch of men back in the late 1700's to go around shooting off not only your mouth, but a bunch of guns.  Well, that only shows not only your backwater hillbilly gun toting christian nonsense, but your inability to grasp the big picture.

"Any officer of the law, that try's to take my weapon, is going to find a bullet with his name on it."

Really?  Law abiding citizen using premedicated murder as an excuse to protect his "right" to bear arms.  And they use the idea that there is a "war" going on, how the governments "Tryanical" abuse is going to enslave our country.

And this from a bunch of hicks that still burn crosses and hang effigies.

Yah.  A gun is like a car.  It's a privilage.  You abuse that privilage, the privilage will be revoked.

"I'm a hunter, why should I allow the government to take my rifle away from me!"

Your a hunter?  With a 30 round clip?  What the fuck are you hunting?  Fish?  Deer?  Most hunters Deer hunt with rifles.  I found very few that actually go after Bear or Mountain Lions, or Cougars.  Most hunters aim to kill on the first shot, and even then Hunters usually have a permit for only a single Buck.  So, why the hell does a hunter need an AR-15 ASSAULT RIFLE with three 30 round full clips?

You know what.  We know the truth.  That AR-15 HUNTING RIFLE, with 30 round clips, with multiple clips.  We know what your really hunting.  Your hunting that law man, whose out to take your rifle away.  Your out to hunt those Congressmen and women, who pass laws to restrict your "God Given Right" to bear arms.

SO, don't...don't....don't fricken come to me, and tell me your protecting your rights, when all your doing is looking for an excuse to go out and murder another living person?  I don't need your sorry of an excuse lie, that you believe to be your own personal truth.

Truth of the matter is...your crazy.

You sawwed off the barrel on your shotgun?  Why?  If your going hunting you need distance and accuracy.  Sawing hte barrel in half on a shotgun, decreases range and accuracy, ...but does AMAZING damage up close and personal when the target is right up on your ass.  Again...you don't have  a good excuse.

I think some of you are just plain nuts.  You keep a weapon for self defense.  In Texas, you can shoot the a man that you find sleeping with your wife....but you can't shoot your wife, which will lead to a murder charge.

So...even gun owners RIGHTS are not even close to being equal.  Even in states that promote Civil Gun Control.

When I say Gun Owners are crazy...I believe they ARE crazy.

Car ownership is not a privilege.

Stop believing the stuff you've been told by your babysitters. You're human beings. You're better than that. At least, you're capable of being better than that.

Government cannot and will not protect you from home invasions, robberies, or lunatics. The fact that people choose to be helpless denotes serious mental disorders, and gets people and their families killed.

Re: Gun Control

Your car can be impounded, and your driver's license suspended and/or revoked.  This is due to no small amount of negligance or dangerous behavior.  Even then you still have to EARN the privilage of getting a Driver's License in the first place.

So yah.  Car Ownership is like Gun Ownership.  It's a privilage, and it can be revoked.  Don't even try to defend your "Right TO bear Arms."

Spock, your so mental.  I mean, how many times have people used a Car as a "weapon"?  Quite a few, especially those running from the law.  In several incidents a crazed, mental, or drugged person has RAMMED people head on.  Purposely.  Plenty of story's from every state.

=^o.o^= When I'm cute I can be cute.  And when I'm mean, I can be very very mean.  I'm a cat.  Expect me to be fickle.

Re: Gun Control

actually car ownership is a right, and you can own a million cars as long as you don't operate them without accessing the privilege of a license.

"SO, don't...don't....don't fricken come to me, and tell me your protecting your rights, when all your doing is looking for an excuse to go out and murder another living person?  I don't need your sorry of an excuse lie, that you believe to be your own personal truth.

You know what's crazy?  The idea that you can sit there and "argue" by declaring you find attitudes ridiculous, and give orders about what we may come to you with.  What are you going to do about it?  Scream us off?

You're darn right we're arming against you and your notions of "society".  You're crazy to think there's anything you can do about that.

Here is a nice photo of a sane functional society.  These cars are being ticketed because they are parked there too long.  Too bad they were burned by a mob, but, that's no excuse.

Not having your car burnt by a mob is not a right.  Every sane person knows that.

Re: Gun Control

No, car ownership is not a right.  It's a privilage.

The car burning is funny.  On that arguement, those that burned cars would say they are demonstrating their "Right to Free Speech."

I do not believe there is any amendment to any constitution nationally, or internationally that lists that Car ownership is a right.  So yah, i'm giving attitude, because your argueing a non-point.

Molotov cocktail + car = freedom of speech to some that would definately argue this crap.

However you and I both know this to be nothing more than anarchist bullcrap because they're bored and angry, and they decided to do some "Destruction of Private Property", which again has nothing to do with "Privalages" versus "Rights".  Where "burning a car" even equates to property rights, I just don't see it.

And the vehicles, even if burned out stinking hulks are still private property, and as law abiding citizens, you are required to remove such vehicles, no matter the condition they are in.

In actuality, owners are identified, they are sent mails to remove such property at the earliest convenience, but not after a set date.

Seriously?  This is Legal 101.  Burned out license plates mean nothing with grafted decal numbers stamped into the metal on the dashboard.  Damn things can resist heat up to 1200 degrees in some cases.

Your "right" to abandon the property?  Versus the privilage of owning the property, still doesn't excuse you from the law.  Law states, can't leave garbage laying around.  It was a car.  It got totaled.  It became garbage.  And then you abandoned it.  Law stipulates rules about abandoning "garbage" on street curbs.  smile  And yes, New York State supreme court has this on their law books, along with several other states.  Hell, even Paris has this on their city ordinance about cars which have been burned or destroyed during riots.

I could go around and round on this, but then you and I would be stuck on a broken record player, skipping to the same beat over and over.  Bleh.

Gun ownership.  Car ownership.  Your "rights" can go out the window pretty damn quick, depending on rule of law.

I still don't see why a Dear Hunter needs a 30 round clip in a semi-automatic rifle for hunting Dear.  I'd say he was crazy.  Or a lousy shot.  Not much of a hunter.  And not much of an excuse for hunters rights/privilages either.  Back in the day hand loaded round, one shot, one kill.  AR-15 with 30 round clips?  Hunting congressional committee members...well...it seems to be all the rage around the world.

=^o.o^= When I'm cute I can be cute.  And when I'm mean, I can be very very mean.  I'm a cat.  Expect me to be fickle.

guns should be banned for safety reasons. More guns in rotation equals more chance of gun-related violence;

Re: Gun Control

yes and we should ban knives for the same reason, and ropes, and cars, and chainsaws... I mean have you not seen the SAW movie series??!?!!

Let us also ban medicines, drugs (yes drugs kill!), sex (how many old men have perished before their time because of this greater evil?), and finally a big thing which ends up with a lot of violence because of it...

SPORTS! We must end all sports around the world. The rioting over a soccer game, the thuggery that comes when betting, and all the other violence that springs up because of sports! END IT ALL NOW!

also baseball bats... those things can hurt someone man!
