Topic: I am retiring as a dev.
I'm retiring as a volunteer dev for IC.
This is certainly sad for me to write, but I don't want to keep you guys in the dark any longer.
I love IC. So much in fact, that I find myself extremely frustrated as a dev here because I simply cannot do the things I want to help this game succeed. This isn't anybody's fault in particular but rather the nature of the situation. This isn't my game. I very much want to take control and make final decisions for game design, tech related things, staff organization, rule enforcement, advertisement, promotion, etc etc. The list goes on. I have so much I want to do for this game, but many of these decisions are simply not mine to make, nor should they be.
This is why I have to leave. I will never be satisfied with my role as a volunteer dev. I want to do more, but it isn't my place to. This was hard for me to accept, but once I did my decision became very clear.
I am working on my own game now, called Troutslap. Some of you may remember it from around 2006 when I first launched it, some of you may not. Either way, that is where my focus will be now. I have a strong creative desire that I need to satisfy, and the best way for me to do that is to do my own thing. The game is currently in the design phase, but if you are interested you can "like" its FB page to stay in the loop on its status: https://www.facebook.com/troutslap
I'm glad that Stefan and the mods took a chance on me, and am also glad that I was able to improve the game in the ways that I did. I saw some interesting thing working on IC's code, and despite the rumors it is not all bad. Kudos to Stefan for keeping things together for so long, and I'm glad I was able to contribute in the ways that I did.
I don't know to what extent I'll be in the forums or on IRC but I do plan to at least hop into #pie occasionally. If you guys want to reach me for anything at all, I have set up an IC-specific email address at [email protected]
This isn't the last you've heard of me, just the end of this stage in my career as a game developer. Thanks for everything everybody. I'm glad I was able to help. ![]()
