Topic: reporting bugs

Just to make it clear.

The bug that stopped all the galaxies and since abused by came roons and others was reported at the start of the rond to mods and pie. In fact I spoke to pie in length on irc about doing something about it and tried to reiterate how unfair it was..

It was first detected by murder face and he reported it to pie and a mod. Nothing was done. His start buildings were doubled and got cash. I argued on irc how un fair it was. It was brushed aside clearly.

My idea is perhaps a protocol for us players to not be brushed aside so easily wen reporting a bug. Specially a bug that now has ruined many galaxies and many peoples times.

Pie Im sure u remember me reporting this to you. You said u were looking into it when u were done your current project.

Re: reporting bugs

Ya, bug started as soon as we switched to new forums... dont know how the new forums and the bug could possible connect, but they are.

Never rule out the possibility that you are a complete idiot

My fam did well????????

Forever, I would never burden you with such a task tongue

And Lee, I never told Hellz(or anyone) how I did it nor was he in my fam. I found it, reported it, laughed my ass off when someone else blatantly abused it weeks later because nothing was done about it.

Re: reporting bugs

7984 was tripple the size of second place and 6x the size of 3rd place in pw 2 weeks into the round... damn camroon

Re: reporting bugs

Most of you are mistaken when it comes to the knowledge of why the rounds were actually shut down and which bugs affected who.

So before the speculation continues, a band-aid fix was put in place shortly after the double building bug was reported. It just wasnt extensively tested and announced. It seems it didnt end up being enough.

There was also presence of a massive aid bug which is the major reason rounds were reset since the damage caused from it couldnt be contained after it was reported late and we had to go to extra measures to see who exactly was abusing it.

Would be appreciated if players who arent aware of the full situation can leave the speculating out of this. Since you only make yourselves look silly when the facts arise wink tongue

Re: reporting bugs

Poley u know perfekty the "presence of a massive aid bug" shoulda been taken as a serious issue to the game and you had several options but you took none:

1) Blok the empire or empires who abused the bug
2) Freeze the gals while the bug was investigated and fizzed
3) Instant reset of all the gals just to save people from wasting more time

none of them was taken, you just stayed idle, and that's why people is upset

Re: reporting bugs

It's a fair concern, though Poley is correct about speculation.

"Nothing was done" is far from accurate.  We troubleshoot the best we can but keep in mind we also have day jobs.  I can't/won't speak for the other devs but I'm not working on IC 24/7 nor should I be, it doesn't pay my bills.  So while we were unable to get a fix before this got exploited and ruined the rounds, we were still looking into it before that happened.  Unfortunately we lost the race.

Hellz is partially right though, the current method of bug reporting is not sufficient.  However, "brushed aside" is not true.  Nobody brushed you aside HellRaizeR, we just have other obligations besides IC (job, relationships, etc).

That said, we have been and are still working on a ticketing  system to improve this situation.  Unfortunately it is not the top priority right now (fixing urgent bugs is).

Re: reporting bugs

Also, Render you are still speculating about what was being done during this incident.  People were not just "staying idle".  The players will have to take our word for this as they can't read the mod/dev forums nor should they be able to.

There are reasons that those 3 options were not taken, some of which were technical.  Poley is correct: people are speculating about the situation without having all the details.  Yes it sucks, and yes in an ideal world we'd have enough time and resources and 24/7 paid staff to take care of this stuff.

Unfortunately, we are all volunteer staff.  That is the reality.

Re: reporting bugs

Pie this is mods konzern, not a dev konzern, they are the responsible for not taking a fast dezision, and we have a modteam not only 1 mod, so there's always a mod online to press the red button.

Now this said, It's a deserved blame but I wont make more blood of it, what's done is done, and it should be valious lesson for future referenzes.  I appreziate your job and the mods job hangin on irz thru spams and petitions all the time, and the only pay out is the kommunity aproving your job and posting smileys.

So lets stop the akkusations and get on thru like we've always done.  By my side this kase is klosed.

Re: reporting bugs

this is both a mod and a dev concern.

many times the mods' hands are tied because in order to understand the extent of a problem they need dev insight or action.  there is no "red button" for them to press.

in any case, yes what is done is done and there are lessons to be learned by this situation.  we obviously have improvements to make, the ticket system being part of that.

I really don't think most of this demanding community puts that into consideration before making themselves look like asses smile

1) you havent listed all the options that we had.
2) we took an option, and it was all fine till it was made complicated by the offender.
3) in hindsight we probably should have blocked the account. But when we are to trust the person reporting the bug to be responsible and do as we ask, we give them the benefit of the doubt to adhere to that so we can get a quick fix without affecting galaxies to the point of having to reset them.
4) the mod team is by far "idle" with both our forum and the devs forum easily the busiest of them all. How those posts get there while were idle is amazing and remains a mystery to this day yikes

In the end we're here for the players, we try do what least impacts the galaxies/players. Unfortunately 3rd parties make it difficult for us to stick to these rough guidelines at times...

Re: reporting bugs

what about the people that allready prebuilt like 100 expos in there fam? guan fix that too?

nar i didnt think so. you cant unless u manually look in all familys/empires and manually reset them....but thats effort right?

Re: reporting bugs

Lol give them some time, they're on it, probably be a reset?

Re: reporting bugs

well the round starts1 day in 5 hours.

People have abused the explo bug, families haven't filled, fams are top loaded leaving some fams with just a couple players and a day till round starts its BS.

my thread was totally right, and it was totally ignored by the mod team.

this is why i think its time for me to leave this game i think, count another dedicated player cut from the ever dropping list of players.

Lee the median fam size is 7 players with a deviation of only 1,
So what do you mean top loaded? have you even looked at the rankings?

Valour-the courage to do what scares you to death

Re: reporting bugs

so ur saying every fam is full of actives nar, some fams are top loaded.

its ok idc im not playing anyway, this round is like, silly.

Re: reporting bugs

There is no way to sort fams so they have the same amount of actives. All you can do is try to even out the number of players per fam and then go from there.
