Topic: Profanity filter

Why not implement a profanity filter instead of bothering with removing a bunch of tag points.  The hacker was able to do it in a couple mins changing words like "The" into "male reproductive organ".

Or would this put too many hard working forum mods out of work?

Pickle Army, some of these words have several different spellings depending on how weird the person spelling them are. For example the F bomb can be ended with uk or uck. Now it can be done with a wildcard, but then if you typed Firetruck it would be edited out. One can put in place a filter for each individual word, but then there would be hundred of filters. And it doesn't cover the issue of masking.

how about giving members an option for a profanity filter to block out curses if their innocent eyes dont want to see them rather than take away tag points?  most bitches that play this game are way over 18 years old and are not offended by curse words.

DP that's actually a legitimate feature request, though it would still have the problem Gwynedd describes.  Censoring is a good idea in theory but it's way too easy to get around.

It's far easier if people would just learn to follow the forum rules.  If they can't do that, then they lose tagpoints which is still a far more lenient punishment than just temp banning them right away.

Some players seem to think they are entitled to tag points.  They are not.  If they break the rules they have only themselves to blame for tagpoint removal.

The forum rules are simple and no hard to follow. As long as you follow them, your tag points remain intact. If you break them you lose them. Not really sure why certain peopleare so against certain repercussions for breaking the rules. It actually seems pretty logical since just having the rules in place was not enough to deter some people, maybe having something at stake will deter them.

maybe just hire more fmods, their really is a lot of swearing in the forums, doesnt really bother me, but im aware of it cuz its against the rulez tongue

chat isnt owned by imperialconflict.  i don't think squirrel pays anything to mirc to host a server (but please correct me if i'm wrong).  i don't think chat should be censored at all.  mod shouldnt be censored.

DP you are technically incorrect.

mIRC is just a client program to access an IRC server.  IC very much does own the IRC server in question.
