Topic: Mod Review

Ha! Gotcha!

I was thinking maybe the Mods can close down each thread made (a week after the last post..?), and then read, review and rate it. I think the thread owner should get Tag Points for whether it a. Helped the Game, and b. whether it benefited the community (?)

Not too sure what the Mods schedules are like but I think it would be a way to reward\punish, great feedback and "fun" gamesmanship, from the dumb\provocative\whines\NAP break accusations, (that blow up into wanting RL punch-ups!) big_smile

Mods should start ALL PvC threads in the interest of either up-dating it with ACTUAL PvCs, or closing it down and reviewing at the end. (This should include deleting other PvC threads started by a douche, (I've been one, I think we all have lol. smile

Mods should start ALL EoR voting threads in the interest of rewarding the players that get the Votes (best leader etc.. with each worth some Tag Points?) AND including the actual Voters themselves with rewards (3 TPs for a full vote, 2 TPs for most of the questions answered, and 1 for less than whats expected). SPAM in this thread should not be tolerated and be a Negative TP to keep it to votes\voting only.

Mods should start ALL PvC\Round "aftermath" threads in the interest of posting the EoR ranks (which could be a way to reward those as well?) and to talk about the rankings, the round and the EoR votes...?

Also Mods when I say you "should" it's just me suggesting I'm not telling you to, I just think it would be good if you did. smile

Re: Mod Review

Mods are already reading and rewarding players who start and who make contributions to a thread which helped the game and the players who play it. The new tag point system does much more than punish, it also rewards smile There are actually alot more ways to receive tag points than to lose them. In a nutshell, you post/do something thats against the posted rules, you lose tap point(s). You post/do something that benefits the game or the community, you recieve tag points. Be patient though as it will require a fair bit of time for us to go over it and distribute TP's accordingly.

There were at one point, actual awards given out and attached to your player profile for Best Opper, Best Attacker and such, it may be a good idea to revisit this rather than hand out tag points for them?

<&InSaNe> so for reference tco has a ticklish bumhole
<@SerialBusiness> good to know. I will make a note of this

Yes this is a sticky one whether to give Tag Points, because no-one can see each others profiles now anyway, but then again if Tag Points are given then it can be reflected on their forum tag? I have seen Custom ones etc, they could read "Best Spy PW72" (which could mean 3 forum TPs?) till the end of the next round... when someone else is Voted it...?

Re: Mod Review

Forever please tone down your usage of bbcode.  Your italicized/color posts are often difficult to read.

Re: Mod Review

Regarding your idea, we're still transitioning into a more formalized process to follow which will allow the staff to more easily find and recognize posts that deserve rewards.

Interesting idea though!  But I believe the things we have in the works will allow us to do this without having to require more staff time to set things up for individual threads.

Re: Mod Review

yes I admit things are moving towards the positive, I just think reading through a thread a week after the heat has died down may benefit all

I've tried to find the rule against it but I can't.... I don't think you should be straight out editing my posts just because you find them hard to read, just say so and I'll do it myself thank you.

Re: Mod Review

There is no rule against it.  It is a configuration option, much like being able to use bbcode img tags to display images in posts, which I wanted to enable but hesitated because I feared that people would not be responsible enough to use them.

I will edit posts if I deem them to be an abuse of a forum feature that is meant to be useful, not distracting.  I did not edit the content of your post, only the formatting of it.

You know what though, you are right in that there are no rules on bbcode usage.  Because this apparently is a problem, I've gone ahead and disabled bbcode entirely for everybody.  Once we get rules in place I will re-enable it.  When people ask where bbcode went I will let them know that apparently some players need things spelled out for them in order to understand why they shouldn't italicize everything they write or color every other post.

This is a great example of a bad apple ruining things for everybody.

Re: Mod Review

Haha, zieg heil! talk about you ruining things lol, I believe I was pretty much the only one doing it anyway fascist. big_smile

Re: Mod Review

Right, fascist.  You are still able to speak aren't you?

I don't understand what the problem is.  You complained about a lack of bbcode rules, so I disabled the feature until such rules exist.

You actually do have a point.  Apparently players cannot be trusted to use forum features with common sense, and when they have their post edited for format (not content) they complain about a lack of rules.  So guess what?  Feature is gone until such rules exist.

Re: Mod Review

Ha, now an announcement about it? Lol what was I doing wrong seriously? Trying to make my posts colourful and fun for myself, I complain you unfairly edit it when you could have just asked me? Lol knee jerk much?, make a big deal out of nothing all right. Congrats to you, you're the big Mod. smile

Re: Mod Review

I'm not a Mod, I'm a Dev.

And that's the thing: I have spent a very large amount of time working on the code for these forums for the benefit of the entire community.  This included new cool things like post-specific tag points and bbcode support via a very complicated upgrade to very shitty punbb code.

Unfortunately I made the mistake of trusting that players would be able to use these tools responsibly.  You are actually very correct that we apparently need rules on bbcode usage.  I was hoping that we wouldn't, but you have proven that we do.

I edited your post to take away the italics and asked your very nicely if you could tone it down.  I did not edit what you actually said.  You then complained at me that there are no rules about bbcode usage.  I am simply fixing this problem.

And yes there is an announcement about it, because it effects everybody.

"Knee-jerk much?"  No, actually.  You see, after about a solid 5 weeks of preparation, code changes, testing, bug fixes, more code changes, and more testing, I am simply now realizing that some of my work needs to be disabled until we figure out how to introduce these features safely.  This isn't knee-jerk at all, it's just the realization that I made the wrong decision and should have left bbcode off by default.

Re: Mod Review

This thread is no longer about the original idea, which itself is not going to happen anyway.  As this thread contains information that is important for the entire community, I will be closing it so that you cannot delete it (as you have done before).  If you want to continue this conversation feel free to make a new thread in the feedback forum.  Because after all, a fascist like me would go and set up such a forum right?
