Got the email, figured I'd pop back and say hi again, see who crawled out of the woodwork once more...
I see it's been over 2 years since I last played a round, been a little busy since then.

Got married, that was pretty good.
Flat got burgled, that was considerably less good, but they took my crappy old laptop and insurance got me a shiny new pc, so that was a bit of an upside.  They did take the hard drives with the european holiday photos, wedding photos and videos, but we had hard copies of most of them, so not totally awful.  Still.
Oh, we bought some land, and built a house!  That whole process occupied a good 9 months of our year.  So we'll be moving out of Auckland and going to the South Island where the rest of my family live.
And I became a dad a couple of days ago, so there's that too.  That took up another 9 months of our year, seems likely to occupy us for a bit longer.

So yes, we pretty much ticked all the boxes on the 'responsible adult' list since I last played a round.  Pretty much unthinkable when I first came here 13 (omg!) years ago, but there you go.
If anyone wants to keep in touch, my forum name at gmail.com should point you to my facebook page (because I finally caved and got one of those).  Not that I put much there, but there are baby photos.  And hey, if you want a place to stay in the South Island of New Zealand, I might be able to put you up for a bit (from next year on anyway, got renters paying the bills for a while).


Anyway, whats everyone else been up to?

This used to be the best signature ever, but after several years, a mod noticed it had a swear in it, and removed it.  I am happy to see they are paying attention.

lol TBO!  No I didn't get married with a mullet.
I had it braided up like Legolas, with ribbons and bells in.  My sister did it somewhat reluctantly, and I wasn't allowed to tell mum about the bells, and she drew the line at flowers.
The real surprise is that I wore a suit, and tie, and proper grown up shoes.
Opti did the photography (he has a bunch of our wedding photos on his page, not sure they're public though).
There were actually 4 former IC players there (though I think you_fool doesn't count as former yet?) and the game did get a mention in my best mans speech (himself a former player).

Fun fact:
There were 4 people named Steve there, which was about 10% of the guests.

As for the house, we bought a 723sqm section in a new development the next town over from where my parents live, and built a nice 196sqm, 4bdr, 2 bath, 2 living room, 1 study, double garage house on it.  We now owe the bank about $400k for the whole thing, but you build a house to raise a family in, you gotta expect that.  Can't wait till we can actually live in it :\

It's funny, I haven't talked to her in a few years, (probably best that way) but she orders a book from my work every now and then.  Wish her well from me.

I was JUST wondering what you and opti (and loth?  he's the 3rd right? memory is fuzzy, i might be mistaken) have been up to.

Glad to hear so many great things are happening for you. smile  Yeah, things are still much the same around here, for better and worse.  We're doing what we can to keep things interesting though!

No Gen, I'm not sure they're legally allowed to use nicknames when marrying people, though it is my email address, and she knows why and where it comes from.  Rest assured your legacy continues.

Pie, Opti's been restoring classic mini's, changing jobs for the first time in 10 years, and moving house after their old one got declared unliveable after the earthquakes a few years ago.  Loth is *mumble mumble* somewhere.  Dunno.

Render, seems like I have some catching up to do, but I think I'm gonna see how we go with 1 first.  I know the Mrs wants at least 3.  I'm not so sure tongue

Oxygen, no.  Every made up name I suggested got shot down pretty quick.  His name is Finn Edward Alexander, after his grandfathers (the middle names anyway).  Maybe the next one?

Oh TBO, the house was built in 10 weeks from scraping the site, to the finishing touches.  The whole process, from picking a design to getting the keys took 9 months, and the first 5 of that was picking design, making changes, getting quotes, arranging finance, insurance etc.  Being a grown up involves lots of last minute phonecalls to lawyers and banks trying to arrange things at the last minute.  blargh!  Glad it's over with now!
