Actually there was 5 proposals, all which would cost far less, which were put out by Republicans, but Democrats did not want. They would have covered 100%.

Did you know over 150,000 spouses and children currently with insurance from a spouse/parent plam are going to lose their coverage thanks to Obamacare?

yay for killing small businesses by requiring them to provide benefits, massive layoffs for extra costs for small and big businesses and jumping people into higher tax brackets who actually get health care from their employers (employer provided health benefits will be counted as taxable income) \o/

the dangerous thing is that no one read the obamacare bill and the supreme court has just ruled that pretty much anything can be passed under the 16th (income tax) amendment.

It's just government taking control over another part of our lives. It's a source of revenue and they want to milk it void of any competition.

And what's that, new regulations are doubling prices? Shocking.

I know many employees who earn $40,000 -$70,000 a year who have 30-50k a year in health benefits!

At even just 20% of the 'new' income this is $6,000-$10,000 more in taxes per year.

And that is just at the Federal level. I shudder to think of living in California or New York as this rolls over. Their plans are far more expensive due to the outrageous requirements they have and the States and Cities and Counties all have taxes. A family in those States might be shocked when 50% of their income disappears overnight!

What price do you want to pay?

Big part of the reason care is so expensive in the US for people under 65 is Medicare.  Medicare, in its current form, has set payments allocated to each little detail of medicine.  In many cases these payments are right at the cost of what it costs the doctor's/hospitals/etc. to function, and there's not much of a profit.  Therefore the cost for non-medicare patients is increased enough to make up the difference.

vissertje's point is also huge.  you can find someone winning ridiculous settlements from botched medical procedures on a daily basis.  hospitals, doctor's, etc. don't lose money on these issues, we just end up paying for the doctor's attention, nurse care, drugs, medical equipment used, stay in the hospital, meals, AND the huge insurance coverage that all doctors, nurses, and facilities have to protect themselves.

That said, I have very little problem with telling insurance companies that they need to have options available for everybody.  What I have a problem with, is me paying to cover people that can't afford the care.  You have asthma? your rate goes up and you get put into a bracket with other asthma patients.  You smoke?  You bet your ass its your right to do so, but to hell if it is my responsibility to pay for your care.  We've become a nation that confuses the word "right" with "privilege", and it pisses me off X(

The Obamacare sales tax will push many healthy individuals to pay yhe penalty as the sales tax will cost more than the penalty.

What "this model of healthcare" is was hidden from the sheep who supported it. It's not like everybody made educated decisions; the ignorant were sold this as free healthcare on the backs of "the rich," and they're not happy to find out that it's new taxes for working.
