As NewsBusters reported Monday, Donald Trump is suing HBO's Bill Maher for the $5 million the comedian offered to the real estate mogul if he proved that he wasn't the product of his mother having sex with an orangutan.

With the suit having been filed in California court hours ago, NewsBusters has obtained a statement from Trump via his EVP and Special Counsel:

DONALD J. TRUMP SUES BILL MAHER FOR CHARITY
$5 MILLION DOLLARS PROMISED TO CHARITY!

Donald Trump today filed a lawsuit against talk show host Bill Maher for the $5 million dollars he committed to pay Mr. Trump for charity while being interviewed on the Jay Leno Show. Mr. Trump is hereby demanding the $5 million dollars and issued the following statement:

I'm pretty sure if Donald Trump had to fork over $5 million to charities for Obama proving he was a US citizen, but getting $5 million from Bill Maher because he proved he wasn't the son of an orangutan... is a net win for Trump.  tongue

dpenguins can speak with authority but I think a pledge to charities cannot be revoked
if all Maher did was speak on Jay Leno he may argue it was an act
but if Trump and Maher spoke further and Maher made a $5 million pledge to charities conditional on Trump's performance of a specific act I guess as a matter of law it could be binding
the facts would be whether they made that conditional contract
and if Trump had performed
and if Maher had not, could he be compelled to perform
