Re: Conservatives: Hypothetical Scenario

I am just curious what the conservatives would do about X in a hypothetical scenario.

Suppose General X seized Washington D.C. by force, and actually managed to maintain absolute power. Within 6 months, he effectively restored the U.S. federal government to the size and intended purpose as mandated by the U.S. constitution, and then abdicated from power. Before abdicating from power, he helped himself to $20 billion from the U.S. treasury and then resigned to a remote estate to live out the rest of his life in luxury.

Question:

General X illegally seized power, and stole $20 billion from the U.S. treasury. However, he restored the Republic. Would you consider him a criminal or a hero? A mix of both? If you considered him a criminal, would you want him punished? If so, what should his punishment be?

Re: Conservatives: Hypothetical Scenario

kidnap him

marry him in Maryland

kill him in an accident

inherit $20 billion

Re: Conservatives: Hypothetical Scenario

Seriously, Yell.

Would the ends justify the means, and can he keep his "reward?"

Re: Conservatives: Hypothetical Scenario

it sounds like a Lucas plot.

"Suppose General X seized Washington D.C. by force, and actually managed to maintain absolute power."

How does one maintain absolute power, except by exterminating all alternatives?  Does he just engage the Congress in townhall debates and kick their ass?  Does he swindle the Congress into passing his agenda as law, like that naked dude on Survivor?  Or does he dismiss the legislature and shoot anybody who farts rebelliously?

"Within 6 months, he effectively restored the U.S. federal government to the size and intended purpose as mandated by the U.S. constitution"

Yeah several months of research and one day of stripping enabling acts of the active paragraphs.  No more "the Secretary shall...such regulations as are necessary..."

"Before abdicating from power, he helped himself to $20 billion from the U.S. treasury and then resigned to a remote estate to live out the rest of his life in luxury."

OK so after holding 6 months of absolute power he abdicates.  To who? The guys he shot?  if the regional governors were keeping the population in line for him, that's not really absolute power.  does he stage national elections before he goes?  Or hand over to another dictator?

Re: Conservatives: Hypothetical Scenario

If he did all that...
Reward him 10 billion more.... that incentivizes General's to protect the Constitution and the Welfare of our Nation.

He will be saving us 1.3 trillion a year after all...

Everything bad in the economy is now Obama's fault. Every job lost, all the debt, all the lost retirement funds. All Obama. Are you happy now? We all get to blame Obama!

Re: Conservatives: Hypothetical Scenario

Give him a 20 billion $ funural.

I don't care about the money but you cannot kill democracy and rebuild it instantly. Building a stable democracy is a very slow process often with setbacks. No more Br

Re: Conservatives: Hypothetical Scenario

What democracy? The hell are you talking about?

A bunch of grateful slaves ignorantly supporting their oppressors is not democracy. There are North Koreans who would espouse Democracy just like Americans. That one is "more" democratic than the other doesn't mean either lives in a democratic society.

Obama and most of Congress should be executed for treason. The ultimate laws of our land were written relatively clearly by very articulate men, and they're being shamelessly violated. Our courts are just as complicit as our corrupt legislators.

Anyone who doesn't see our government as a pathetic joke is illiterate or completely ignorant of our Constitution. We haven't lived in a democratic state since the Federal Reserve Act of 1913. We had a republic. We failed to keep it. All hail the New World Order; the last 3 presidents have openly hailed its coming.

Justinian I, your question regarding ends justifying means confuses me. What's wrong with the means when it's one authoritarian vs another? Their philosophies are internally consistent.
