Re: 96 hour advanced notice for vacation ode

Vacation mode is meant to be used for when you can't play IC because you are on vacation. In most circumstances, vacations are planned months in advance, so a 96 hour warning should be required before vacation mode activates. This way vacation mode cannot be used to run away from fights, as happens far too often. TBH it seems like vacation is used to hide from opponents far more than it is used when on actual vacations.

This should be a no brainer implementation. Period.

Re: 96 hour advanced notice for vacation ode

I don't always plan my vacations in advance.  I'm sometimes gone for a week in 1-2 hrs.

But, I know where you're getting at.  I don't vmode if i'm away, cos i can still at least log into send aid someway or the other.  So my fam benefits from me, not being in vmode, even while im away.

You're right though, most people abuse vmode for the reasons you mentioned, but I don't think your solution ist he answer.

I'd be willing to hear some other ideas though.  Maybe something along the lines of ....once a fam has cancelled on you (obviously only ingame NAP), noone can enter vmode until 48h after the NAP expires, or something.  Except for those people who are already in vmode before teh cancellation.

Just a thought.

Edit:  And just cos your idea suits your particular circumstance, doesn't mean it's a no brainer implementation.  There are other things to consider too.  Period. smile

Yea I know, but I'm really pissed right now. Also, I was going to say that even people who do go on vacation, STILL don't enter v-mode just to aid out, like you pointed out yourself.

Also, no solution will please everyone, but right now vacation mode is used honestly by probably less than 5% of cases and abused for the 95%. In order to allow maybe the 5 people who go on vacation last minute to enter v-mode, you will allow another 100 to abuse it.

Doesn't mae sense and something needs to be done.

Re: 96 hour advanced notice for vacation ode

"something needs to be done."

Agreed!

Hence why I'm sure we'll consider any ideas.  What I proposed (just thought of it quickly), does sound nice though.  That way, all of a sudden after a cancellation, people can't decide they want to take a holiday tongue

Re: 96 hour advanced notice for vacation ode

But then there might actually be people who have to go on holiday during the war time. All options won't satisfy all scenarios.

I'm thinking a 96 hour warning is best because if they actually had to go on holiday, then they would have already entered it in game, before any naps were cancelled.

At the end of the day, your idea works too, and I'm sure there are many more that can work as well. What I should have wrote was "SOMETHING needs to be done. Period" smile

Re: 96 hour advanced notice for vacation ode

Yep!

"But then there might actually be people who have to go on holiday during the war time. All options won't satisfy all scenarios."

If they do, then perhaps they know in advance that they're going.  In which case they'd have to Vmode before any potential cancellation.  If no cancellation and going on holiday, they probably wouldn't vmode.  If they decided to only go into vmode after a potential cancellation - then thats kinda the same abuse.  They dont want to lose anythign for their impending war.  So yeh, they should lose that right anyway if they havn't already vmode, imo.

Re: 96 hour advanced notice for vacation ode

Technically you shouldn't be able to mark anyone Inactive unless you're killing them off.

Period.

its "abused" too much in terms of saving morale and passing planets through the family...

I think only about 5% use it to kill inactives off and 95% abuse it to save morale when just passing planets intra family..

Sure, make it illegal to mark anyone inactive unless you kill them off

Re: 96 hour advanced notice for vacation ode

Didn't they change it so you don't need to mark them inactive to pass planets within your family?

Re: 96 hour advanced notice for vacation ode

Inactive tag saves moral in intra fam passing. You can still pass planets without it.

And I use inactive tag 100% of the time to kill somebody off since its required. tongue

Modestus Experitus

Arby: A very strict mod, reminds me of a fat redneck who drives a truck around all day with a beer in one hand. I hated this guy at the start, however, I played a round in PW with him where he went as an anonymous player. Our fam got smashed up and everyone pretty much left. Arby stayed around and helped out the remaining family. At the end of the round he revealed himself.... My views on him have changed since. Your a good guy.....

Actually if you refer to the changelog Arby,

you are now allowed to use the Rogue tag, which now you can kill people off who are marked rogue...
