Re: For what things would you be willing to die for?

I am a Veteran, specifically I was infantry in a front line always will see combat type unit, the 101st Airborne.

When I joined I gave my oath to protect my nation from all enemies "Foreign and Domestic". I was willing to die for my country. The gun thread makes me wonder, what would you die or kill for?

So I decided... lets discuss this.

I would kill and be willing to die to prevent a gun ban, a ban on freedom of speech, religion, or if an enemy invaded. I would kill or die to save children, to save Church goers, to save someone I agreed to protect (if I did security again), to save an innocent, and to prevent terrorism.

I do not think my list is outrageous, nor do I think it probably covers everything I would be willing to die or kill for.

I do know that when I was in the service I hoped I would be sent against racists... so I might be inclined to be more willing to kill them if a situation was a 'possibly need to kill' event...

I would not hesitate to kill someone... Is there anyone here who would be incapable, even in self defense, of killing someone else?

Re: For what things would you be willing to die for?

To save church goers.... This is where I leave , religion Shoukd be a thing of the past. You'd protect someone who goes to church regardless? Half these people in your country committng all these terrible acts are religious you guys are so messed up. I'm Canadian and starting to despise your country more every year

How do you explain that?  Are you taking the stand that military conflict is never in any case necessary?

So I hand you a gun, I point a gun at you, I pull the trigger twice, hitting your left arm and your left hip with a graze... I point it at your chest... your not gonna shoot me?

Re: For what things would you be willing to die for?

This is an interesting question.

I am generally against violence and especially murder.  I think though, If I had to I would be willing to take another life if it was to protect my own or that of a family member or close friend.

Einstein, I curious about your list, specifically the church goers.  Do you consider people who go to church to be inherently more worthy of life than those who don't?

Re: For what things would you be willing to die for?

Flint... no i would not... but then i am probably too much pain and not in a state to shoot anyway.... my response would to be never near you in the first place...

Zarf: You are correct, violence is never the correct answer... there are circumstances where it is an answer, or the least wrong answer. The correct answer would be to not be in that situation....

pretending to be against killing for any reason or sacrificing yourself for a friend, family etc is just an excuse for being a coward

Re: For what things would you be willing to die for?

what takes more courage? to hide behind a gun and say this is my defense and take no responsibility or to access situations and ensure you are never in the position you need to use violence?

Re: For what things would you be willing to die for?

oh i dont mean to say that you should go out of the way to look for violent situations.  however, these situations can occur at any time to any person.  i think it would be cowardly if someone with a gun busted into your house and threatened to shoot their kids or wife etc and the man of the house had an ability to shoot the intruder or let his family die.  i also can think of many situations where i would sacrifice myself to save another.  this is essentially what are brave men and women in the military and our police do on an every day basis.

If you served in the 101 and saw combat, my name is Miles Davis.

There are obviously a lot of people here who wouldn't even attempt to defend themselves. Some people just hate freedom. What do you have to defend yourself from when you're a willing slave?

i never plan to join in the military unless i am forced or our country is invaded. i do my best to avoid situatios  where voilent actions are more likely to occur. but i would not hesistate to save anyone in my family. anyone who generalizes like a canadian is a fool tongue

Re: For what things would you be willing to die for?

I was never in combat but I did serve.

As for the Church goer situation... I believe Church's represent a way for people to communally seek wisdom about God and that their intent is no harm. They are essentially innocents almost entirely by default. I would consider a few other groups similarly innocent by default (though for other purposes) including a gathering of doctors, a group of expecting mothers doing one of those breathing excercises, and any group of children attending school.

Re: For what things would you be willing to die for?

Okay, so when you say "church goers," you mean "people who are actually in the process of attending mass," rather than "people who attend mass," correct?

Re: For what things would you be willing to die for?

Interesting, so as long as an Al Quada member is religious he gets to avoid Einsteins wraith.

Re: For what things would you be willing to die for?

As far as things I would be willing to die for - pretty much preserving other life.  I wouldn't be willing to die for a law (i.e the right to own a gun) but I would be willing to break the law to insure I had one to protect my family.

No, as in "Flint would not kill an Al Qaeda member while that guy is at a mosque worshipping."

Re: For what things would you be willing to die for?

Muslims attend something other than a Church. Idk, with how their religion has been, that I could die for them while they worship Mecca. I could kill to protect them, but I don't think I would die for them
