Re: Laptop crashes
So my laptop keeps crashing. So I opened it up to clean up the fan, and realized that there is almost no thermal paste on the gpu. Would that explain the crashes?

I'm going to say yes because saying yes makes me look smarter than acknowledging that I, in fact, have no idea of what you're talking about. ![]()
Too much porn!
There does not have to be lots of thermal paste. Thermal paste is only there to "flatten" the chips surface and close creasings.
It still could be the problem though:P
How does the laptop crash? Totally unpredictable? Allways when u launch programms? When u watch too much porn?
Call geek squad,
the dam porn took my labtop down man be careful with that shit
pornhub or redtube. only stream porn. never download it
im suprised you took your graphics card apart during clean up.. Did you mean cpu?
If not: I dont know enough about gpus, but id suggest reaqpplying paste
If so: It shouldnt be causing your crashes your laptop should just switch completely off after a few minutes (up to an hour or two) of continuous use, the more your you stress your pc the faster it would go blank.
If it has been just switching completely off as opposed to crashing or bluescreening then its definitely thermal paste related.. Heat can only be transferred efficiently from the cpu to the heatsink if there is sufficient thermal paste.. You only need a little pea sized splodge in the middle for it to do the job though! ![]()
routine crashes are often a symptom of a dying hard drive
I could help you but you wish to tax my future tax bracket to oblivion.
Maybe a socialist will help you.
I was a certified Dell Tech at one time after all. But I want to move to the 100k a year bracket in less than a decade and you think you deserve that money for on demand abortions.
Maybe if you charged him enough to offset the perceived increase in your tax burden, it would work! Have him internalize the cost!
He can't afford $10,000 for a laptop repair.
That's sort of... liberal... of you to assume he can't take the personal responsibility to determine his own financial capacity, or lack thereof. ![]()
Hey Flint,
-I don't consider $100k rich.
-I could obtain $10,000 by liquidating assets, but then I would just buy a new computer.
Update:
I added more thermal paste, Arctic Silver 5. Then I forgot to plug in my fan after taking it apart, and I think I fried my gpu grr. I hope my problems can be corrected by scanning for disk errors and defragging. Otherwise, I will replace the gpu, which my laptop allows. But at least the heat goes to the heat sink now, and the gpu is stable at 50 degrees c.
