Re: Tax the rich! Tax the rich! How about we do math instead?

I <3 math so let's do math!

The net income of the 1% is 1.324 trillion

http://taxfoundation.org/article/summary-latest-federal-individual-income-tax-data-0

Thus, if they paid all income as taxes.... well we need to know the spending right?

We spend 3.8 trillion a year 'currently'.

Now I say currently because Obamacare's main cost hits in 2014. That is when the real costs come in and needs to be accounted for. Additionally Social Security is going to require more money, there is a likelyhood of an increase for Medicare/Medicaid, and Obama insists on another "Stimulus" of a trillion or so dollars.

You could take every after tax (they pay a hefty burden already) penny they earn and still not pay for your ideals.

Oh and lest you forget... you think we are not spending enough by far!!! You want more spending, tons more. And you think taxing the rich at any level will work.

You also seem to think they won't pass at least some of the costs to you. Hahaha, nice dream world!

Everything bad in the economy is now Obama's fault. Every job lost, all the debt, all the lost retirement funds. All Obama. Are you happy now? We all get to blame Obama!

Re: Tax the rich! Tax the rich! How about we do math instead?

Did you have a point?
I think the problem is that the rich have the means to pay a lower marginal tax rate than many low income wage earners. And the 'rich' is not the 1%. It's the top decile.

So yes, tax the rich. But don't forget the others who also need to pay tax.

Re: Tax the rich! Tax the rich! How about we do math instead?

Is there a reason not to tax the wealthy? Because I didn't see a good one yet

Re: Tax the rich! Tax the rich! How about we do math instead?

The problem is that the democrats always believe that the upper middle class are rich. If they want to tax "the rich," then I demand more tax brackets.

Re: Tax the rich! Tax the rich! How about we do math instead?

Well I would hope those who are well off but aren't exactly millionaires get a proportional tax increase. If more tax brackets are necessary for that then sure why not tongue as long as it's fair

Re: Tax the rich! Tax the rich! How about we do math instead?

I think the taxes of the upper middle class should be lower. Set the top marginal tax bracket to 60%, and have it apply to billionaires.

Proof Justinian is now fully in the tank as a socialist.

Re: Tax the rich! Tax the rich! How about we do math instead?

No, it's different because Justinian only wants to use the money to fund secret police forces to silence opposition, rather than social programs!  Totally not socialist!

Actually, the money would just be hoarded in the treasury and saved for a rainy day.

Re: Tax the rich! Tax the rich! How about we do math instead?

See?  That's definitely not socialism!

Re: Tax the rich! Tax the rich! How about we do math instead?

Those who want the "rich" taxed more are those too ignorant and stupid to understand that their taxing of their rich is why they left their nations, why their nations have so few rich paying taxes, and why their nations are relatively third world garbage heaps.

Cry me a river. You like being slaves, so stop crying about how bad it is.

Kemp,

We won't have to worry about tax shelters or emigration if every country taxes the rich.

Re: Tax the rich! Tax the rich! How about we do math instead?

Justinian I,

You won't have to worry about anything if the world is under the fascist control of one world government. You'll be a slave. Having no say in anything. Worries would be illogical.

...Tell me you're trolling. Did you seriously suggest fascist one-world oppression as a desirable alternative to successful people being rewarded for their success in free markets? Serious question: How much pot do you smoke daily? How many drugs are you on?

When you seriously propose that "we won't have to worry about X if the entire world is a police state with 100% state control of everything!" I have to ask what you're on.

Was Hitler's Germany more desirable to the USA today? Stalin's Russia? Mao's China?

The notion that fascism is a solution to overspending by government (which happens because that governments have too much power to steal from their peoples already--you propose more as a fix) is absolutely ridiculous.

If you're going to make that argument, please explain it more clearly. Please offer examples to bring your ingenious concepts down to our base level.  If you're going to make me laugh, make me laugh hard. Don't just spam a ridiculous idea; make your case. Don't tease us with something that stupid w/o some meat to make it REALLY funny!

Nevermind that, on top of the morally atrocious garbage that your NWO fascist ideal is, you completely ignored the damage to productivity that punishing success nets. Literally every nation on earth bears witness to this trend: The freer a people--the more individuals are rewarded for their productivity--the more productive they are. The resulting increase in supply means lower cost of goods and a higher standard of living for all.

But just ignore this simple fact, attested to by literally every example in the history of man. You have a fascist dream. Don't give it up. Hating freedom is comforting to intellectual lightweights and pansies terrified of the idea of taking care of themselves. If you pretend that man is incorruptible, you can argue that fascism is the cure for literally every conceivable ill! Now that's smart!

Re: Tax the rich! Tax the rich! How about we do math instead?

spock,

You won't have to worry about anything if the world is under the fascist control of one world government. You'll be a slave. Having no say in anything. Worries would be illogical.

---nice troll face

...Tell me you're trolling. Did you seriously suggest fascist one-world oppression as a desirable alternative to successful people being rewarded for their success in free markets? Serious question: How much pot do you smoke daily? How many drugs are you on?

---no hes suggesting removing tax shelters, and there are still obvious incentives to free market without tax evasion. how much pot do you smoke?

When you seriously propose that "we won't have to worry about X if the entire world is a police state with 100% state control of everything!" I have to ask what you're on.

----- nicely done taking a cooperatie effort into fixing tax evasion with countries and spinning it into a police state, you should try working for fox news.

Was Hitler's Germany more desirable to the USA today? Stalin's Russia? Mao's China?

---- so now we must kill millions of people to stop tax evasion, bravo great example

The notion that fascism is a solution to overspending by government (which happens because that governments have too much power to steal from their peoples already--you propose more as a fix) is absolutely ridiculous.

---- at least this has some solid foundation

in case you didnt realize the world operates together economically daily, and we organize trade bars to keep people in line, so suggesting that countries have similar tx brackets so that people reaping the benefit of poor countries pay thier fair share really isnt that obscured. but you should just go back to your pot and trolling

Re: Tax the rich! Tax the rich! How about we do math instead?

Spock, all politics aside, this is your FINAL warning. If you use words like stupid, idiot or other insulting terms again in the forum you are in for a very lenghty ban.

You have been warned multiple times about this before.

Re: Tax the rich! Tax the rich! How about we do math instead?

Kemp,

I'm sure 90% tax rates will reduce motivation to produce. But I'm talking about adding 20 brackets, with the top marginal bracket being 60%. Besides, billionaires don't produce anything. They just invest it, and they'll invest in whatever gets them the highest return even with a 60% tax bracket applied to their gains.

Re: Tax the rich! Tax the rich! How about we do math instead?

Paul Krugman had another column in the NYTimes that "gee those Republicans want to go back to Eisenhower but when Ike was president we had boom economy AND 91% top rate"

I agree with him

let's have 91% rate

and bomb Europe and Japan into rubble
