Re: Official Election Day Thread!

There was a treachery act of 1940 in great britain, where it dealt with treason (I think). In the US we just use treason.

not that I disliked Romney that much or anything, but it was pretty obvious that obama was going to win a second term

Re: Official Election Day Thread!

treason is the only crime defined in the US constituion

It's "Giving aid or comfort to the enemies of the United States"

In 1803 Aaron Burr conspired with the Spanish governor of Florida to use Spanish troops to conquer American settlements in what is now Arkansas and Alabama and create his own kingdom, which would give Florida a buffer against the US.

President Jefferson had him charged with treason and the Supreme Court threw it out.  Spain was not a declared enemy of the United States.
Neither was the Confederate States of America, or the Soviet Union.  Nobody spying for them got charged with treason.  They got charged with espionage, which we beefed up to be punishable by death, or life imprisonment, or such term as seemed groovy.

Nazi Germany did declare war on the United States.  In 1943 an American of German descent who'd gone to Germany came back home.  He told his dad that he was sent by Hitler to blow up US factories.  His dad let him crash and use the family car to find a job.  He got caught by the FBI.  His dad was convicted of treason.  His dad appealed all the way to the Supreme Court.  In Hauptmann v United States the Supreme Court upheld the conviction since his son was an enemy of the United States and dad helped him out.

Arby and TBO should print Hauptmann v. United States and save it for when they have teenagers so they can prove it is illegal to let them have a car or live there after 18

Re: Official Election Day Thread!

Looking at it, Total turnout was down in each state from 2008.  That needs looking at, because it could be people were undecided to the last minute and decided to sit it out, or, maybe conservative people got sick of Romney.  It doesn't look like people who supported McCain switched to Obama because his numbers are down too.

Of the remainder, Romney lost key states by about 4% or less.

Re: Official Election Day Thread!

Firewing,

Republicans suck too, so it wouldn't be any better for the USA for them to go more liberal. Open borders don't work for a welfare state; the only reason Amerika's left want open borders is to collapse our government/society as a justification for a fully communist system.

Simon,

The fact is he won, and the fact is that demographics who support him heavily are growing much more quickly than demographics who support Romney heavily. Voters voting based on who will give them more have little to no consideration for other events, so it's unlikely that any event could buck the trend.

Prince Charming,

Don't be daft. The Affordable Health Care Act doesn't have anything to do with an emergency like this. Personally I think it is awesome to see Americans helping Americans. Doctors without Borders is an excellent organization and it warms my heart to see them helping out the people who can't help themselves due to the terrible storm.

Obsessed is a word the lazy use to describe the dedicated.

Regarding Democrat culture,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6G0-UbESeo
(As Joe Biden would say, "those are the facts.")

Language warning: He uses a certain word starting with the letter "n" nobody likes. But he's black. And he's not using it hatefully. So I'm pretty sure he's not being racially insensitive... to himself. Chris Rock has been using this context for more than a decade, btw.

Anyone disagree? Or is he 100% right?

This guy should have debated Obama.

Re: Official Election Day Thread!

will watch it tomorrow when I get more free data

Somebody on Facebook declared all persons who voted for 3rd party or not at all should defriend her because we voted for Obama and we're no better than Al Qaeda

I said goodbye and don't forget to add people who voted Republicans into the House, cause they're helping him out too

Re: Official Election Day Thread!

Hahaha. So true.

Voting for Bush got us Obama. Voting for McCain got us Obama. Voting for Romney got us Obama.

All of these people supported foreign aggression, the Fed robbing us, and bailouts. When these jackasses get elected, they show themselves to be similar, not alternatives. Voting for these clowns is why it isn't more obvious that Obama's socialist policies fail and make us all poorer: Because their policies are pretty statist too, and the difference in economic impact is similar.

Def watch the video.
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6G0-UbESeo) (same link)
Language warning: He uses this certain word that starts with "n." But he's black, and he doesn't appear to hate himself nor his skin color. He talks about a culture shared by many black people in America. Sad to say, judging by the numbers, a majority of black people in America.

Edit: I think I should start a new thread with this video as its centerpiece. I think a lot of European socialists, in talking about America, fail to recognize the tens of millions of Amerikans who are like this man describes. (They're not all black, obviously. The points he raises go beyond just the context he discusses them in.)
