Re: ellection system poll

Should the choice for president be decided by the total amount of votes?

1. yes
2. no the current system is the best
3. pick someone randomly between 5 and 90 years old, no matter state or gender. What are the odds its someone like obama or bush?
4. no there is a better system (then the total amount of votes system) but its not the current system.
5. The oracle will speak neo, you're the one Little Paul!
6. no, there is no better system at the moment, but something needs to change
7. (coming soon)
8. It should be decided like the tournment in Hunger Games.
9. ...

Altough I bet everyone will pick option 5 as I do, I take option 3 as next best.

I'll add it to the list

Re: ellection system poll

2: Current system works.

Note: This is a US-specific answer I give.  I would not necessarily recommend the electoral system for most democratic nations (except perhaps India).

Oh, and this isn't to say that I have no problem with the primary process.  I definitely take issue with that part of the electoral system.

the electoral system in theory or in practice? As far as I know the electorates has never voted against their popular vote.

Simon, there have been... 4 separate instances of the electoral vote going against the popular vote, including in 2000.  What rock have you been under?  smile

2) is my choice

The electoral college system prevents major urban centers from dominating policy decisions.

Re: ellection system poll

Okay Zarf, I think you're talking about how Bush won the presidency because he won the electoral vote, but not the popular vote.

I was talking about votes on the state level, where the state electoral college never goes against the popular vote in their state, even though they're not required to go with the popular vote. Situations like 2000 can occur because voters per electoral vote is not the same across all states.

@ILTk:
"Demand a recount!"
no, because I would contest it and ask a recount of the recount then contest it again!

...and the original effort was to much of a burden already.

@ps
Its possible.

Re: ellection system poll

The electoral college was boss back when states had rights and the federal government didn't have unlimited power.

Now we live under the tyranny of the Republican and Democratic parties (who share most of the same values), so it doesn't matter what anyone thinks. Every year, people will vote for who they perceive as the lesser of two evils and our freedoms will [continue to] be consistently eroded.

This stuff is fact, not conspiracy theory. Hell, you can watch Nancy Pelosi say it very directly on video.

I'll add it.

Re: ellection system poll

Thanks LP,

I re-affirm my vote for #8.  All politicians are unemployable deutsche bags, therefore moving to a system where 11 out of 12 of these clowns are killed off seems like a good start.
