As the activity on school drew to a close that evening, the school quieted. It was always fairly quiet anyway. Schools had little need for night staff, except for routine night cleaning. However, with the death of the janitor, the school was deafeningly silent.
Elrohir's office had been so busy the past couple days, adding the murders to the list of maladies that have afflicted the student population. Measles, mumps, the flu... a nurse's job is never done. Even when school is over and the kids head home, the supplies need to be accounted, the materials sanitized... Elrohir found himself alone in the school.
Or was she?
As Elrohir was finishing up the sanitation, with his back turned toward a sink with water, he failed to notice both the slightly opened door to his office and the quiet steps inching their way closer to her. As Elrohir finished and began to turn, she was met with the sudden pain in her leg and the quiet voice whispering "Sneak attack!" As she fell to the ground, Elrohir looked down to notice her left leg began to bleed... as an arrowhead pierced through her kneecap. Elrohir turned to her attacker.
"That's... an odd choice of weapon."
"I was Legolas for Halloween! You wouldn't believe what I had to do to bring this!"
"You're a terrible shot... you know that, right?"
"No, it's... awww, come on! You used to be a nurse... but then... arrow to the... you really don't get it?!?"
As the killer continued trying to explain his tactical irony, Elrohir used the distraction to reach for an epidermic needle on a desk. She reached within half an inch of the needle when he suddenly noticed a blindingly sharp pain in her hand, as the attacker managed to stab a bishop through Elrohir's hand, into the table. "I believe that's checkmate for you!"
The killer began to leave... but then stopped and turned to Elrohir. "Hmm... am I done... no, this won't do. You might actually survive those wounds. If you're going to do something, do it right." The student then reentered the nurse's office, and began rummaging through her supplies.
"Hmm... I'm guessing you probably don't keep deadly toxins on stock, so I'll have to improvise, won't I? Or you could just make it easy and let me know if there's any medications lying around here which you're allergic to? No? Fine, we'll do this the hard way."
As the killer collected a series of prescription medications, he inched over to a now weakened Elrohir and began pouring pills into the nurse's mouth, saying "Take 70 of these and don't call me in the morning."
The killer waited a couple minutes to ensure he did the job right. Although Elrohir attempted to stay awake, the loss of blood and random mix of medications began to overwhelm her senses. Elrohir grew more and more tired. With the last moments of life, she saw the killer bend down in front of her and whisper "So... I guess today is a good day to die, isn't it?"
