Some forecasters are relating it to Katrina in strength and it is hiting the traditional strongholds of Democrats.

New York City for instance is expecting severe damages. Inland New York however won't get hit so hard. Same for New Jersey and other States.

If this storm is of Katrinia level damages it could severely reduce the number of Democrats voting while only cosmetically reduce the number of Republicans.

Suddenly this election may be a done deal by bad weather to the anguish of the left. Will this bad weather upset an election in it's final countdown?

I was thinking the same thing, but the opposite of what you were thinking lol. He knows this will seal it for him if he does everything right, I bet Romney is thinking "oh no, why now? A hurricane's going to blow me away". Lol, yay for Obama! big_smile

Yes it will sweep Obama off his feet and send him to Neverland. Although, he does fly on his broom, so if the hurricane hits during the night you'll be able to spot him flying against the moonlight.

If the American people are choosing a president based on how well he handles one (albeit extremely dangerous) weather event, our nation is lost.  There has been a year of campaign rhetoric and to have this event push an undecided voter one way or the other is absolutely asinine.

This has no bearing on the election, other than it may dampen the voter turnout on election day in the Northeast.  I think that bodes well more for Romney than Obama.

Guys... this isn't an issue of people deciding their votes based on the election (although I will note how many people made a big deal of Bush on Katrina).

Rather, it's an issue of voter turnout.  In conventional politics, it's very easy for any person to decide to get out of their chair, head to a polling station, and vote, or go vote on the way to or from work.  Simple.

The hurricane changes the equation.  Depending on the time of landfall, severity of damage, and amount of rain, "heading to a polling station" could be a significant ordeal.  Thus, it's likely that those who were on the fence-not on the question of who to vote for, but on the question of whether to actually go and vote-would suddenly be much less likely to go vote, simply because they don't want to risk life or limb in the middle of a natural disaster.  Thus, it's more likely that those local elections will be decided by the hardcore dedicated populations (the ones that actually do see voting as a civic duty, and who would be willing to risk hazarding a friggin hurricane), combined with early voters and absentee voters.

Now, I obviously can't say whether this will give Romney an advantage.  Fundamentally, though... this completely changes the question of what a "likely voter" actually is in these districts.

I hated this guy at the start, however, I played a round in PW with him where he went as an anonymous player. Our fam got smashed up and everyone pretty much left.
